Side note: Chicago is cold as hell, as is New York

New England is awesome

Martha's Vineyard
Nantucket
Boarding Schools: Andover, Exeter, St. Paul, Hotchkiss, Deerfield, Choate, etc
Good Colleges: Amherst, Harvard, MIT, Williams, etc
Skiing, Sailing, Fishing, The Hamptons are right there

I don't get how we aren't a city that attracts stars...we have tons of them here throughout all sports

The only thing players can be afraid about is our culture, i guess most of them are too scared that they aren't going to win a championship because in this town if you don't win it all you don't mean Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.

Nah - it's moreso because Boston is still viewed as a "Racist" city by outsiders.  If you remember, even KG called Gary Payton and asked him the truth about Boston when he was making a decision on whether to accept a trade here

But yeah, obviously warmer climates are always going to attract more stars than colder climates

And Boston is not nearly as bad as the press in NYC, If you screw up at all they will have your mug with some smart A** catch phrase to make you feel awful.

I think the Celtics had quite a stigma after the 90's.

Poor management for too long.

I think their reputation is rebounding nicely as they have put together 4 years of elite basketball.

Guys will come here now in my opinion.

Literally every player that has been apprehensive about coming here completely changed their tune once they got here.

Boston is a great basketball town and I think we can take this momentum and hopefully carry it over to next offseason when Danny will be in full recruiter mode.

I think that perception is dead and buried especially with this new generation of players.

KG might not have know the truth about Boston, but these new cats, the under 30 crowd know the truth.

Most of the things you mentioned aren't feasible during the NBA season, when most players would actually be here.  Instead, they get a foot of snow on the ground.  And I don't think Dwight Howard cares about good colleges or boarding schools.

Most of these elite players don't just want to be the best players, they want the fame too.  Bright Lights, Big City.  It's New York or LA, and to an extent Miami because of the weather/South Beach/etc.

New York and Chicago are both huge, world-class cities with a much bigger nightlife. Boston is a college town that on most nights shut downs earlier than the others.

What makes Boston a cold city?

I think it has to do with the hemisphere and the sun

Stay classy, San Diego. Hello, Baxter? Baxter, is that you? Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee. Is this Wilt Chamberlain? Have the decency to say something.

I kinda have to agree. I would think among current pro players the following places have to be considered at least in the same general league of racist, if not more so....

Anything in Texas
Anything Florida (well maybe not Miami. Maybe not Orlando either)
Anything in Georgia
Philly and Pitt (no seriously)
Charlotte
Memphis
A lot of the Bible Belt
Phoenix

You know what. I'm backing off this a bit. Let me just say I think these places and others present just as many "cultural challenges" to modern athletes as Boston.

If you compare say Boston to Orlando......Boston has the possible cultural problems AND the bad weather.  Orlando has great weather and no major reputation of anything all that bad.

Even with Boston's issues they're still more desirable than say Minnesota, which has one of the most liberal fan bases in the country.  But it's hard to say they're more desirable than say New Orleans with a rich inclusive culture, phenomenal food, cheaper living, and warmer weather.

Plus to be fair NY, LA, Chicago, Houston, and I think Philly are #s 1-5 in population. Just more people come from there. Look at electoral votes. It's like Cali, Texas, Florida, PA or something.  Just more athletes have lived there or gone to school there. There's a ton of major colleges in these areas. There's only BC and UConn in New England. And a lot of their recruits come from NY, NJ, and PA.

Boston will always have to recruit, whereas these other places will always have some home grown talent.

Yea, but in all honesty, removing my celtics fandom and ties to the area from the equation.

if im a 20 something with unlimited money and fame and I'm told "hey, You can live in one of the following 4 citites"

LA: amazing nightlife, women, and fame
Miami: see above
NYC: crazy night life, heart of the media empire
Boston: a nice college city during the heart of winter.

Sorry, my list starts with the first 3 and ends with boston.

Weather during the season and the nightlife DO matter, sorry.

i believe this is the real reason...

Stars are humans too, after work they definitely want to have fun, and as adults, social life is either revolves around clubs, alcohol, or dinner/gatherings

It's odd but there are tons of cold weather colleges with tons of snow that get great football and basketball recruits.  Syracuse is snow king. Notre Dame. BC. UConn. Ohio St. Penn State. Michigan. Oregon. Rutgers. Pitt. Temple. Villanova. Indiana. Purdue. Wisconsin. Washington sometimes.

Maybe I'm pushing it.

I don't think this exists in hockey.

NFL is kinda a mixed bag.  I think that's based a little more on coaches where coaches and players make huge huge differences.
