Why fix it when it ain't broke? Especially when you have a gaping hole in the middle. We have Jeff Green, picks and JO to have a go at Al Jefferson. The Heat, on the other hand, may want a center but have zero trading chips.

Why (presumably) use Jeff Green to upgrade for Chris Paul when we could use him to get us a center. We owned the Heat when we had a 40 year old Shaq. Scratch that, we were the best team in the league when we had a 40 year old, out-of-shape Shaq playing 20 minutes a game.

I am all sold for getting Al Jefferson but not at all convinced renting Chris Paul is going to help us.

(Maybe the idea of building around Rondo, Al Jeff and Pierce is a bit daunting but we'd have Ray Allen (who has, again, expressed interest in retiring in green and I'd be that he plays for another few years) and possibly KG off the bench. Also, Rondo and Al Jefferson are much better players now.)

Bring 'em on. Shoot me down.

I think the problem is, a lot of people would argue that it IS broke.

i concur,
unless cp3 deal comes with okafor or another other starting c from a 3rd team , then I say keep rondo and use green/davis to bring back AJ or  j thompson or ...

I like the idea of getting Al better than CP3. Look how good KG made Perk look. I think Al would befit from the same.

If you have Rondom, Al, and Peirce, it makes Ray and KG think about comming back for one more go.

I think you could trade Green, Baby, and Bradley and fill there spots with some vets easily. Its just making the trade before they sign contracts.

I can't.
With either CP3 or Rondo, the C's are cooked if all they've got at center is JO.  They might not even have him; wasn't he contemplating retirement at the start of the offseason?

yup.

i agree we need somebody other than JO to give us a solid chunk of minutes each game at center (20 minutes a night).

unfortunately, as bill simmons outlined in his latest column, all of the decent centers on the market in the next couple of weeks will sign for well over the full MLE -- which we don't even have to spend.

our only chance at having a serviceable starting center other than JO (or even a good 20+ mpg backup) is acquiring one in a trade.  e.g. if we acquired biedrins or okafor in a 3 team trade for chris paul.

I definitely cannot deny that Rondo is clearly flawed. Despite that, though, Rondo is a hell of a point guard. Shaq was on his way to one of his best seasons at 39 with Rondo spoonfeeding him the ball.

Then you have Rondo's chemistry with the big three which does not seem to come up much in trade Rondo talks.

The Celtics at the start of last season would have flat out beat the Heat and would've been a nightmare for any other team.

Hey, the Heat almost won it all with Joel Anthony, Erick Dampier, and the 67 year old Big Z last year.  We can probably make due.

Well, JO is only Pierce's age, and unlike KG, barely played his first 5 years in th NBA straight out of high school. So, while his injury history isn't good, he isn't that old and when healthy should be able to play 30 mpg.

Now, I'm not thrilled our title hopes hinge on him, but if by some miracle he doesn't get hurt, I think he can still play and arguably be the best overall center this team has had. He can defend nearly as well as Perk, but cam hit a jumper and finish around the basket.

Yes, "It" is very broken, the "it" being our offense.

the mavericks came equally close to a title with erick dampier, desagana diop, and dj mbenga.

of course they had dirk in his prime back then.

Same thing I said when we were hearing Big Al for KG rumors:  I (and many others) argued that IF KG is a top 5(ish) player, you get him.  Anytime you can get a player that has megastar capacity, just get him.  I am not anywhere near obsevant enough to know if Chris Paul is a top 5 player -- but if DA thinks he is, he has to work every angle to to trade for him.  Opportunities to get a top 5 player do not come around every year.  If they lose CP to free agency next year (which would cost CP by estimates I've heard around $40 million), so be it.  They then start from scratch -- but I believe Doc, DA and the Big 3 will be a pretty powerful influence for CP signing here.  In addition, a CP sign & trade would be CPs only way for him to play in NY or LA for max dollars after next year.  C's will have some leverage.

Re: JO -- if the C's land CP, then let's wait and see who DA can get to play on a team with Doc Rivers, the Big 3 plus CP. Once the roster is complete, I have a feeling JO will not be expected to play more than 15-20 MPG.
