I think the list of equal or better alternatives are slim.

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute

Thadeus Young

All these players are available and though I am sure the Celtics can't afford a few, they could afford a couple at much less than what they would have to pay Green.

Which couple do you think would be significantly cheaper: Luc Richard, and Mbah a Moute?

Jeff Green = $35 million, five years
Shane Battier = $20 million, four years
Josh Howard = $8 million, two years or $9mil, three years or $5 million, one year
Grant Hill = $3 million per annum, one or two years
Tayshuan Prince = $26-28 million, four years
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute = $11 million, four years
Andrei Kirilenko = $25 million, three years
Thadeus Young = $335 million, five years

Green as a pf will out run most nba power forwards and I know rondo will get him 3-4 easy baskets a game that he did not get with OKC.  As a sf I want him as our low post option.  I would like to see him become more aggressive rebounding (our big weakness) and on defense which I both feel will come with more playing time with kg, pierce, rondo etc.

David Falk explained four scenarios for Jeff Green's restricted free agency.

First, Green and the Cs could reach a long- or short-term deal (Green can make up to the $13.6M max).

Second, Green could accept the qualifying offer.

Third, the two sides could decide they can't reach an agreement and decide to do a sign-and-trade.

Fourth, he could sign an offer sheet from another team.

Options two and four are the tricky ones. Falk said out of respect for Danny and Doc, he wouldn't do No. 4. But with No. 2, the Celtics would put themselves in a tough spot. If Green accepts the qualifying offer, he can't be traded this season.

So, say, the Celtics decided they wanted to trade Green at the deadline so they'd get something for him before he's unrestricted next summer ... they couldn't.

With new salary rules, I really don't think anyone is going to give Green anything more than our qualifying offer.  And I like Green. 

I think the best move by both parties would be for him to accept the QO, prove he can play, then get inked long term.

I think teams are finally wising up to the idea that you can't give 3rd or 4th option guys big long term deals, and I think Green still has a bit to prove before people think he's more than that.

Jeff Green is a very intriguing player. 
He's been called "the smartest player I have ever coached" by one of his coaches. 
He grew up alongside future superstars Kevin Durant and Russel Westbrook.  Now he's playing with hall-of-famers Allen, Pierce and KG in the twilight of their careers. 
He was a big part of bringing a brand new franchise into relevance, now he will be a part of maintaining one of the most storied franchises in relevance. 
Contrary to the norm, he started his career as part of the Thunder's big 3 and now he's coming off the bench behind the Boston big 3.
He's gone from one young all star scoring point guard to another young all star passing point guard. 
He has the athleticism, the IQ, the skill and the experience.
And finally, he's returned to the city that drafted him.  Green back in Green.  There's something very aesthetic about his young career.
