Eja117 do you not believe in luck?
Because luck, aka randomness, explains an awful lot of what Tebow accomplished last year. The rest is in his avoidance of turnovers and an increased amount of running plays reducing the possessions in the game. (the worse your offense is the less possessions you want in a game)
I believe weird things happen and thought there might be something divine going on, but in Tebow's case no. To me luck is more like throwing a lob to Christian Laetner at the last second and having it swish after he goes like 18-18 and 14-14 at the line. You can't reproduce that.
But for a guy who is one of the best college players ever to take over a 1-4 team and lead it to win after win after win, and have guys saying they want to play harder for him, then no. No I don't believe that is luck.
I believe there are good circumstances. You could say Tebow is lucky to play in a weak division and where the air is so thin a 59 yarder is no big deal to his kicker.
I believe guys can have a good year. But basically no. I don't ever find myself saying "That guy just had a lucky year".
I also believe in fairness. They took away passing plays from him and gave him more running plays because he runs better than he passes. Manning gets a lot more passing plays than running plays because he is a better passer. I don't feel that that makes Manning the better QB (assuming the same number of total yards and wins and whatnot), because I think it's ok for a QB to run.
I admit if they let a RB pass a lot and he was successful at it a lot, but was a terrible runner I have no idea what I would say. I guess I'd say he was a good running back if his team were losing, then all of a sudden was winning. Weird, but good.
