What happens if the whole 2011 season is lost? How would they set the 2012 draft order? That could be a crazy process.
30 Ping Pong balls!!
We'll get Red's ghost to rig it for us so we'll get the 1st and 2nd picks overall! Welcome to bean town, Andre Drummond and Anthony Davis!
Sadly, the Clippers pick is top-ten protected, so the best we'd be able to do is 1st (with our own pick) and 11th (the Clips' choice).
Another thing to keep in mind is that the new CBA could institute a new 20-year-old age minimum. The owners are apparently pushing for it.
So any idea what would our mathematical chances of getting the number one pick be? (or top 5 for that matter)
Well, if there's a season, our chances will be close to zero, as we'd have to miss the playoffs.
If there isn't a season, it will depend on how they did the lottery. I'm too lazy to lock it up, but when the NHL was in the same situation, they did a lottery involving every team. Basically, the bottom ten teams over the last five years got three lottery balls each, the middle ten teams got two balls, and the last ten got one ball. (Details may be a bit off).
In that instance, we'd have a 1:60 (1.7%) chance of the #1 pick.
