I don't really care when the date is, but I think we should finalize the following (since it may ahve some minor impact on moves):

- how will we determine a rookie draft order if the season is lost?
- how will we determine the waiver wire order going into 2012-13 if the season is lost.

seems to me that with each we could:

a. just repeat the draft order from this offseason (i.e. base it on 2010-11 league results). Waiver wire order could either reset based on 2010-11 league results or we could open waivers, then carry that order over to next season.

b. run a 20-team lottery -- weighted or not -- for both draft order and waiver wire order.

c. decide that we'll do whatever the NBA does, and reset when the next season begins.

Definitely something we may need to think about. Right now, I'm inclined to just go with C, but that may not be so easy to implement for our league.

If we have the same picks as last year, I get the second and the third overall pick...sweet. ;)

EDIT: I'm not sure about the second.

I like "C", as well.  Or, a variation of C.

What if we go in reverse order of last year (regular season, of course ;)).  Each team is assigned to a real NBA team, and however the NBA lottery goes, so goes our team.  If your real team doesn't make the top 20, then things go in reverse order of finish.

My concept will be easier to explain once the NBA figures out what they're doing, but lets say they do something like this:

5 ping pong balls to Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver

4 ping pong balls to LA Clippers, LA Lakers, Memphis, Miami, Minnesota

...

1 ping pong ball to New Orleans, New Jersey, New York, Orlando

So, our worst team would get Atlanta, second worst Boston, etc.  Wherever those teams end up in the lottery, our GM picks.  However, lets say Atlanta ends up with the 25th pick in the real NBA.  Well, our GM would end up with no worse than the 20th pick, as all the selected teams would get priority, and then unselected teams would go in reverse order of league finish.

Solid for both teams.

DD gets a solid guy who can put up 15/10 for the next 5 to 8 seasons.

TB gets a draft pick that could be top 5 (based solely on last season's results), in what should be a strong draft.

I like the risk / reward for both.

I did it because I still have MMSB's first rounder. Gortat was worth it.

I like the move for the DD. They now have have a nice core of ~7-8 players.

Given the fact that this season may be lost, the pick *should* be a pretty good one in a very strong draft next year. However, in a 50 game season, I could see the DD finishing in the top half of the league, which makes the pick much less valuable.

TPs to both managers.

I agree, there is a risk on both my part and his. If the season is cancelled I get a great pick, if not I'm pretty sure his team finishes in the top 5 and the pick suffers. My take on it is that this is a deep draft, and even if the pick ends up being 15-20, I can still get a very good player out of it that will be younger than Gortat. Of course, I can end up picking 1-5 and totally bomb with the pick like Jordan did with Kwame Brown, so who knows ;D

I remain hopeful that there will be a resolution to the lockout. However, I don't think it happens in the next 30 days.

Shall we impose a cut down day sometime in the next few weeks, so that we can upload rosters into Yahoo!, where, presumably, they will be stored in the event there is no season?

Dec 1? Dec 15? Jan 1?

doesnt matter to me

You're too kind, hpantazo...top five is highly doubtful. I'm hoping to finish somewhere between 11-15 this season...still need to add some scoring.

Thanks for your opinion, MK.

Big Al was taken 15th and Brandon Jennings 10th, so there is definitely a history of top performing picks there. I don't follow college basketball, so I would be shooting in the dark. However, I know other managers are more comfortable drafting college players. WW always seems to land good player in both rounds. Gl, I hope it works out for both of you.... but not too good ;)

TP for posting your thoughts, I would like to add Rondo to your list (21st pick), Nick young at 16, and Stuckey  at 15. These examples, along with the fact that the 2012 draft will be loaded due to the lockout causing players to opt out of entering the 2011 draft, there will certainly be value anywhere from 1-30, it's just a question of making the right draft choices.

A 3 way deal is in progress...and it is reported that 2 out of the 3 GMs involved aren't completely happy with their potential return.
