Toine's Boys trade David West
Rondo2287 trades Kris Humphries and own 2012 2nd rounder
Wow I would think David West would cost a lot more.
David West is obviously the best player in the deal but Humphries, if he continues to improve, is not a bad pick up at all. Rondo's team is going to make the playoffs most likely so David West makes sense for him...while hpantazo is rebuilding and trying to acquire young players and picks. Makes sense for both teams, imo.
I'm not a huge Humphries fan; I think his value is going to take a hit when he leaves the Nets, and it won't surprise me if he's replaced in NJ by West.
Humphries is almost 27, and has had exactly one season where he's averaged more than 7.1 points or 5.5 rebounds. He's a mediocre shooter (with last year being a career year), hurts at the FT line, and doesn't shoot threes or pass the ball.
Between a 27 year old Humphries and a 31 year old West, I take West every time, even when accounting for his injury. It's not like Humphries is a 22 year old with upside; he is what he is at this point, I think.
I hear your points Roy, but as barrefaced monk said, I was looking to get younger, and I am betting on Humphries matching or beating his numbers from last year, which I think will happen, some guys break out late. He put up a string of huge rebounding games combined with pretty good scoring and a few blocks. He lacks some in the skills dept but he has the hustle and smarts, and physique to get it done on a regular basis imo.
I had actually contacted Rondo well before making the trade to obtain West, and had asked him if he would trade Humphries for West if I were to get him. I never really wanted West long term, just wanted him for his value. I put him on the block and was not very overwhelmed with the offers I got for him, so I decided to pull the trigger on my original plan.
West may lose a step after the knee surgery, and I think he will lose some scoring if Paul leaves or if West changes teams, both of which are likely. In 2 years when hopefully my team is ready to contend with yours

, Humphries will still be in his prime while West will be on his last legs, so those 4 years count. Plus I'm glad to have another 2nd rounder in a deep draft.
Who knows however, I could be completely wrong, hopefully we get to find out.
