Well I agree with Yao not being on the list, but not Arvydas Sabonis not being on it

I think Dirk is getting a pretty healthy boost coming off his championship.  He's a great player, but I don't have him ahead of Karl Malone, Charles Barkley or Kevin Garnett.

Overall, most of the list is justifiable, although there are quite a few nits that can be picked.

I would put Kareem at 3 and Wilt at 4. Kareem was a top center in the NBA from 1970-1889. I don't like Lebron at 25- not yet.

rings have to count at least as tie breakers? Especially if it's a home grown non-KG/Lebron dream team assembly deal, right?

Rings count, although if Dirk ran into MJ in the Finals (rather than a choking Lebron) he probably wouldn't have any rings, either.  All four could score, but I'd give the edge to the other three for their superior rebounding and passing (and in KG's case, his elite defense).

I'll take Jordan, Chamberlain and Magic. Russell belongs in the top 10 someplace though.

Agreed.
I think there is a current player bias, but that's understandable.
Celtics fan for life.

Plus Dirk was on the other side of an upset in the Finals himself not too long ago.

I rate Malone/KG well above Dirk because they were more two way players. With Barkley I'm torn about it.

The other two are closer, but KG has a ring and should never be put below Dirk, or lower than top 3 PF of all time.  His offense is slightly worse, his rebounding is better, and his defense is in another league.  KG automatically changes any given team into a top 5 defense, and Dirk all by himself gives you a top 5 offense, but KG's offense was better than Dirk's defense, he was a slightly better point forward, and he was a rebounding beast.

I'd rank the rest:  Dirk, Malone, then Barkley
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I feel like Wade is too high and Dirk should not be over Kg. I guess I have to put Dirk over Malone with a title as a tie breaker. I think Pierce could be higher. I think Ray Allen as well if Reggie Miller is as high as he is but Reggie had the great playoff moments.

I think Kobe is perfect, as is Shaq and Duncan. I think Nash is too high too. I think Lebron should be higher.

All in all most of this list is justifiable.

Topic for discussion on a rainy, NBA-less afternoon, should Magic really be ranked higher than Larry if Magic wasn't even necessarily the best player on his own team?

Lots of ways to argue this.  Perhaps Magic was better, and Kareem, which is why the Lakers won 5 titles and the C's only 3.  On the other hand, would Larry have won 5 and Magic 3, had Larry had Kareem and Magic had McHale?

Not sure myself.

Really? Dwight Howard better than Paul Pierce?
Maybe after they've retired. MAYBE

One of the problems with lists like this is you need to define what you mean by best. Most productive? Most skilled? Best prime? Best career? Best winner? How does health factor into it? It's hard to comment on how good a list is when it's hard to say exactly what the list is supposed to represent.

Having said that, it's a reasonably good list, I've seen a lot worse...
