Let me first say that by perfect, I mean that Danny does everything in his power/circumstance to get a championship, and I think that doing these things would put us in a spot to contend, without surrendering our 2012 free-agent-a-palooza.
Resing Glen Davis
Why are we even considering giving up a young big when we have only our starting frontcourt signed for next season, who are both old and need young guys to eat up the regular season minutes. Resigning Glen Davis not only gives us another big man on the roster, but keeps our MLE open.
Sign Deshawn Stevenson
He's hard nosed, blue collar, and makes LeBron furious. He's already a Celtic! DeShawn won't be a top priority for Dallas with Chandler and Barea, so Boston could sneak in and take the defensive beast. He could be in the same scenario as Dallas: Let Ray handle the offense, and he can play D. I'm not sure what it would take to get Stevenson (Maybe part of the MLE?) but he would be worth it.
Don't Forget The Obvious Things
Resign Delonte and Green. Also sign JaJuan Johnson, E'Twuan Moore, and Gilbert Brown. I bring these up because losing Tony hurt. It sucked for our D and I think we get past Miami if we have him, trade or no trade. The 3 rookies will all be valuable and we would have 4 nice players developing, while still contending. I think JaJuan, Moore, Brown, and Bradley could all become solid/borderline starters in the league and could make up a versatile and great bench for years.
Sign at least 2 quality centers
Kwame Brown, Joel Pryzbilla, Samuel Dalembert, Greg Oden, Kyrylo Fesenko, Aaron Gray, Alexis Ajinca. Any of these guys would do, but not just one. In some cases we may even want 3 of these guys. Ajinca and Gray isn't very intimidating, but Brown, Fesenko, Ajinca, and Jermaine is a solid rotation with an insurance/blowout big in Ajinca. Most of these guys will take the minimum and be happy with sharing playing time for a championship.
If all of this went according to plan, with the realistic centers, our roster would look like this:
PG) Rondo/West/Bradley
SG) Ray/Stevenson/Moore
SF) Pierce/Green/*Brown
PF) Garnett/Davis/JaJuan
C) Jermaine/Kwame/Fesenko/*Ajinca
*- Gilbert or Ajinca could be signed with the last roster spot, I would prefer Brown, because of his defense.
Let me know what you think/if there are any weak holes in this roster. It looks like the MLE would be split between Stevenson/Kwame/Fesenko(Or can you only split it between two?). Which isn't as attractive as splurging it on someone like Jamal Crawford or Dalembert. Dalembert is probably going to Miami for the full MLE and I think we would be better off splitting it off instead of getting someone at the full MLE to "compete" with Miami's signing of Dalembert.
I know this doesn't solve one problem: Bench Scoring. Jeff Green, Big Baby, Delonte, and Rondo need to start scoring more. Last season Pierce was around 18 PPG, Ray at 17, and KG and 15 (roughly). I see those coming down to 17.5, 16, and 14.5, all with reduced minutes. Doc needs to let Delonte, Green, and Davis know that its okay to score when you want to, just don't over do it with the shots(Big Baby...). All 3 of them could be 10 PPG scorers when healthy. Rondo needs to start scoring more. Whether its driving to the basket, jumpers, or free throws, he needs to just put points on the board. This would fix the problem a lot easier than bringing in someone like JR Smith or David West, and would be a lot cheaper.
