I'm not sure what I think of this.  Brown has a great basketball mind, but he also has a tremendous ego, I think.  I think there's a good chance that he'd be as much of a distraction as a positive influence.

Yes, I agree. He may disagree with Doc on several points and try to coach over him, banking on his more extensive background experience. I'm not sure if he would be the best fit.

to be honest we are not the best team anymore
(players wise) hate to say it but have to be objective
so its ok to bank on tricky plays

That's great if he signs. If not, it really doesn't make that big of a difference. The personnel issues are far more glaring as of this moment.

If you can add a guy with that much experience, it's hard to say no. I can't believe Brown would actually accept this type of gig. But if he is willing, I'd definitely want him.

I can understand Doc wanting some stability to his staff, and thus why he likes Lombardi, but if Lombardi can spend another season or two under both Doc AND Brown, he will be a much better assistant (and potentially head) coach.

im not worried too much about Brown or Rondo, since Rondo already gets the system, and is already at an all star level..

im more interested in seeing Brown develop guards...maybe teach Bradley a little

Would be hard for this guy to listen to Doc and take orders from a younger guy- he also can be very stand-offish with players, ie: his ego vs their ego.
I also question his defensive resume that some people are raving about.

I wouldn't question it. He blew my mind with his underdog Pistons beating the crap out of the "Star-Studded" Lakers.

If he could bring that kind of intensity to the Celtics - That should be a very good argument for hiring him, IMO.

Danny has Doc's back and would never be intimidated by Brown. All they have to do is define his role. Probably a lot of film work and big men and defense or something, while Doc does guards and offense and whatnot.
It's like saying if Belichek retired and a few years later wanted to join Mike Tomlin's staff Tomlin should say no.  Granted Bill isn't as much a distraction, but still.

It's encouraging to me that he doesn't want a head coaching gig. Also I think you have to remember this is a veteran team that knows how to play and win. He doesn't have to baby sit like he did in New York.

But they should definitely bring up the quitting thing. Heck. Call Jerry Sloan too.

It would be good for Doc in case he needed to miss some times (games)for family issues...there would always be someone with head coach experience with the team at all times.

Im thinking with Austin approaching his college career at Duke,his daughter and other son probably on the verge of going into a new phase of life Doc could use some time during the season to help his family...just a thought.

Brown is friends with Doc off the court from what ive heard so there already is some chemistry developed.Both coaches seem to share some of the same philosphy in how they deal(coach)with younger players.There will  be some things to work out once the season starts but thats comes with the territory in any new position.

I'm not so sure about this one. My gut tells me that it wouldn't work out that great and I don't see him taking a back seat job like this very well.

But I'll admit that this could just be because I can't stand the man. He cheated in college and and to quit. He's been a quitter in his NBA jobs as well.
And seeing him in Charlotte belittling players and owners just makes me like him even less. I think the guy has attitude problems and isn't a very
likable person.


That and he's one of the phony UNC coaches. So yea, I can't stand the guy and just don't want to see him.

Brown has traditionally had a positive impact on a team's win record during his first season - obviously as a head coach.  If Doc and DA want him I think it could help...it might give the Cs a small edge come playoff time given Brown's experience.

Larry Brown would be great once the team is broken up.  Few can teach the game better and he would help with the younger players providing he sticks around.

Brown, 70, tried to become a candidate for NCAA jobs at UNLV, Oklahoma, Missouri and Penn State in the spring, but those schools never gave him serious consideration.

Brown has coached nine teams in the NBA, winning 1,098 games and cementing himself as one of history’s most successful coaches. Nevertheless, he’s grown more difficult to deal with on the job, and recent acrimonious endings in Charlotte, New York and Detroit have impacted his desirability among teams. Younger general managers and owners are less inclined to deal with his high-maintenance reputation. What’s more, teams are especially uneasy handing over young teams to him. Brown had long insisted that he would someday finish his career as a high school coach, but so far that act of charity hasn’t happened.

It's exceedingly fooling for a school like Penn State to not "seriously consider" Larry Brown.  They didn't even interview him? I mean who else did they have on the candidate list?  Maybe if his salary demands were very high I can see it, but if he'll sit for an interview that would be good. They could at least show him around campus.
