Did anybody else catch this? Apparently, Shaq had his Achilles operated on pretty recently. Does this mean there is any chance he could un-retire in 10 months or so and come back? We all know he was pretty awesome until that injury crept up on him. Anyway, this caught me by surprise, because I thought he said something along the lines of, he wasn't going to get/need the surgery since he wasn't going to be playing anymore.

He will be a fat, fat man.

If you saw him recently on one of the late night tv shows (the clip was on here) he is actually probably about the skinniest he has been a decade. I am not sure how much muscle has lost, but he definitely is going the opposite direction of fat at this time

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
I'd take retired Shaq that's not injured over a retired Shaq that is injured. Still, I'd take a healthy Shaq playing anyday.
I like Marcus Smart

Give him a few months to let himself go and he will go in the same direction as Jordan, Barkley and others.

If I was one of the greatest NBA centers ever and had made over 300 million in my career, I would get as fat as I want. Let him enjoy his retirement.

I wouldn't mind him coming back as a coach.

After his retirement annoucement he said he would need surgery to repair the Achillies and it was a 9 month recovery period.  That is pretty much what forced him to retire; well that and the lockout.

Why are people acting surprised by this?  It's all very old news.

Shaq is more about the brand these days than the game, wherever the brand takes him financially is where you'll see Shaq in the future.

Does anyone remember the furor and passion that people had in believing that Rasheed Wallace was DEFINITELY not retiring and would be coming back. Heck, people were believing it all the way into March.

It NEVER happened.

And neither will Shaq returning. The surgery was something he was going to need regardless of whether he was retiring or not. He's gone. Get used to it.

Shaq will make at least one return to the game if not more...It's very hard for some of these guys to stay away, it's such a huge part of their lives.

i agree, though I was one of those people who thought Sheed was coming back when the trade happen...

its ok to dream i guess, i mean its the nba, anything can happen...as much criticism Sheed got in the regular season, I still thank him during the post season, he really did turn it on

I mean I believe Shaq is done, hes not coming back, but I'll still dream that he'll come back during March =)
