I definitely agree with the majority that we would have to bring him here. There's just no denying his basketball abilities.

I do worry about his commitment and maturity as a supposed alpha-dog of a team. He's routinely called out his coach and team mates yet spends time doing self promoting gag bits interviewing himself during an important playoff series.

I'm also not convinced Jeff Van Gundy wasn't talking about Howard saying that the Magic need serious minded players not clowns. Given his insider knowledge, that's a potent comment to make on national television.

But, surround Howard with the right coach, organization, atmosphere and players and i think he will be a champion. If he came here with Rondo or Chris Paul as his alpha-dog PG, I think he would be absolutely DOMINANT!!!

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I think he's definitely talking about Arenas. That's the reason he's no longer with the wizards they wanted him away from wall.  Arenas is a guy who doesn't know when to stop, Howard is a goof, but nowhere near Arenas. I think Howard showed that he cares about winning this season when he repeatedly called out his teammates and backed it up with some truly dominating performances. Arenas and Howard together isn't a good combo on a team. A team can handle one goof, but not two especially when they're rotation players.

The thing is : you're not going to land Dwight without already having a superstar on the roster for him to team with.  So between the two of those superstars; you should be supplied with that killer instinct

TP Nick for the topic.  Character issues are always relevant when taking on a new player, but sometime talent supersedes even questionable attitude.  If Dwight can possibly be had, you have to try to get him.  Add in the fact that Doc and Danny seem to have a great track record of reeling in players with checkered pasts (which I don't believe Dwight even is), a veteran club with a lot of history and players whose singular goal is to win a championship, and you have to feel confident that any issues could be corrected.

I believe he will be the most valuable player in the league(not talking about the trophy) because of his position for the next 5-6 years.

Dwight does like to have fun and is a goof, but all that nonsense stops when he's playing the game. He might not have the "killer instinct", but for a guy who shoots poorly from the FT line, i don't think he can ever be a closer.

However, we shouldn't equate having very few gamewinners for lack of heart/killer instinct though. As far as i remember, people were often talking junk about KG not being clutch. KG is clutch! especially on D! that said, we still need a closer if we get Dwight on the team. Someone like Pierce :P

Dwight is a goofball but he also can be seen goofing off DURING games. That is what I dont get about the guy. Hamming it up with fans during free throws just looks rediculous when you are trying to compete at the highest level.

That being said, I would take him 8 days a week. He just cant be the vocal leader on the team. I would love to see if playing with KG would have an effect on his mentality. He might be too establised to make any changes but it would be interesting nontheless.

"Do We Really Want Dwight Howard?"

Wow....now I've read it all.

Why wouldn't we want the best center in all the NBA??!!

People, the Celtics stunk in the playoffs this year.

We need MORE talent.

Agreed.

I mean look at the retiring/soon to be retiring era of top big men.

Shaq - 5 titles
Duncan - 4 titles
KG - 1 title
Dirk - 1 title

Gasol - 2 titles

Wallace - 1 title

As much as the swing men sell tickets and jerseys, big men are the title keys  (except Jordon)

The big men can have different teams around them.

The top swingman always has a top big man.

Shaq - 5 titles

False.

Anyway, I don't see why so many people are upset with Dwight's clowning. I actually like that about him; he isn't afraid to show some personality. I would love it if he came to Boston, but I definitely disagree with that segment of fans that think we should do everything necessary to get him. Like giving up Ray and KG or some such stupid nonsense. Dwight is a great player, but he cannot alone carry a team to a championship. He isn't worth blowing your team up to acquire.

He carried a team to the finals.

Therefor, put him on the Celtics who have a good GM, they will be able to put better pieces around him then Orlando did which will allow Howard to make the next step, title.

No one player is a slam dunk title winner.

But there are better players to build around then others.

NBA history says top big man is one (if not the best) piece to build around.
