If you were Ainge, would you do the following, if the opportunity presented itself.

Trade Ray, Jeff Green and a resigned Big baby,
or
Just Ray, Jeff Green & maybe our trade exception

for

A young, and very talented, legit SF to pair with JJ & Rondo. The guy would be someone you'd see as a cornerstone moving forward after Pierce is done.

Knowing you're targeting Austin Rivers in next year's draft. Or, knowing with the Clipper pick and our own, we would have the ability to pick up a legit SG, if not Rivers, in next year's very deep draft.

Yeah, but I'd prefer to move the exception over Davis.  We're in desperate need of size right now.

And it clearly it depends on who this hypothetical SG is.

I wouldn't trade Ray + Green unless it was for someone like Wade.

We need a 2 guard, and trading our All-Star SG and arguably best bench player for a better backup SF basically ends our chance at 18 next year.

We might as well start shipping off the Big Three for draft picks and projects.

And isn't it a little premature to assume JuJuan Johnson is the future with Rondo?

It all depends.
obviously, this trade wouldn't occur until mid-season since it involves a "resigned Baby".  if we are contemplating such a trade miseason, then its because the Cs are performing poorly and a champtionship run is not in the cards.  In that case, yeah, it would be time to blow it all up.... and, again depending on the player, the proposed trade might make sense.

Celtics fan for life.

in order to justify this thought, you have to give an example of who you would be getting in return, and it has to be realistic that the team would part ways with said player.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I'd make the trade if it meant the guy we were acquiring was able to defend the 2 position as well. Otherwise, no thank you.

Nope, I don't think so. Losing Ray leaves the C's empty at the 2 guard...the guy you get would have to replace Ray in the starting lineup. Losing Green leaves the C's empty behind Pierce at the 3, so the guy you get would have to be the backup 3 as well. He can't be both.

Here's my idea. Keep Ray, keep Green, re-sign Davis cheap or let him walk and replace him with someone else similar...how are Powe's knees now?

The 2012 draft is going to be very strong and very deep. We might have a 11 to 15 pick, plus another at 20-24. In the 11-15 range players like Jeremy Lamb, Michael Gilcrist, Austin Rivers, Adonis Thomas and Terrance Jones will be available...pick one and you have your SF or SG of the future. Then in the 20-24 range, pick up a very good backup.

Re-sign Ray to a low contract to start until his replacement is ready. Re-sign KG to a low contract to start until his replacement is ready. Green and Pierce still cover the 3. Rondo still handles the 1. Grab the best Center you can get in FA (Howard of course). Mix and match, win multiple championships.
