Drafting players from the D-League???

I think I've read every mock draft that's out there and as I try and pass the time until Thursday, I see that Chad Ford has us taking Jamine Peterson in the second round.

Peterson was dismissed from Providence last spring, went to play pro ball in Greece and eventually landed in the D-League playing for the New Mexico Thunderbirds. He's averaged 12.8 ppg and 5.7 rpg in 22 mpg.

I didn't know you could draft a player from D-League ???

I'm pretty sure the Heat drafted an NBDL player last year as one of their four 2nd round picks.

You can if the player was not previously eligible for the NBA draft.  The aforementioned Latavious Williams chose to play a year in the D-League straight out of high school.  Peterson didn't turn pro until after the deadline for early entry into the NBA draft.
