I don't necessarily see at as a risk, which is why it doesn't really make sense to me that he'd be available at 25.

He's 6'11, super athletic pf/c. At very worst he's .... a 6'11, super athletic pf/c. Isn't there a spot on every teams rotation for that? (here's looking at you, Joel Anthony)

He was a back up center in Japan!!!!!!!!

I would not expect anything from him for at least two years.

Based on the Celtics having a win now team I would draft Johnson.  Four years of college, can block shots and has a jump shot.

Now if you can some how get two picks or Tyler falls then yes I take him but he is years away from being a factor.

No, at very worst he's a 6'11", super athletic pf/c that isn't anywhere good enough to play NBA basketball that we would have to pay for 2 years minimum.

The average success rate of an NBA prospect picked at 25 or later is not high. Might as well gamble on someone with a high ceiling.

Erden was the last pick of the second round and would have been great on this team if we kept him, and Rondo was the 21st pick, which was sold to us for cash, so don't underestimate the value of late picks.

But isn't there enough examples of guys who are just that, and only that, who have been in the league for years getting regular rotational minutes? The Heat just made it to the finals starting one, the Mavericks got big minutes out of another guy just like that (Mianhimi)

Still better than a combo guard who would never play. At least he'd be a body.

Yes but there might be just as many examples of the type of player I described

Well, and if you buy the draft camp numbers, he isn't so "super athletic".  He tested as a solid athlete, but not what he was billed as.

Mahinihi (or whatever his name) was a disappointment for the Spurs, and even if you call his few minutes in the finals a success story, the draft pick didn't pay off for the team who drafted him.

Joel Anthony may have gone undrafted, but he had a much stronger resume than Tyler coming out of college (he was Mountain West defensive player of the year).

It is incredibly rare when a player like this is able to not only become a good NBA player, but do it for the team that drafted them.  Other than Perkins, Ibaka, and DeAndre Jordan (who again, had a much stronger resume than Tyler), I can't think of anyone else who has come from having such a short book on them, other than being tall and athletic, to being a quality NBA player.

But again, this is the time to swing for the fences, so go get him Danny.

I can't think of many 6'11 Super Athletic guys who weren't able to crack rotations in the NBA...and that's really all we're looking for at this stage in the draft.

All I'm saying is that at 25 you'd probably get some minutes out of the guy.

Taj Gibson was #25 a few years ago - he's pretty much exactly what we're looking for.

In terms of Danny picks in that range (early 30s - mid 30s), he's gotten a fair amount of useful players.

Rondo
Delonte
Tony Allen
Perkins
Baby Davis

He whiffed on Giddens and Pruitt, but otherwise has been pretty solid at finding players in around the draft range we're selecting.  That's what makes me nervous about those tweets from a few days ago, where they seem to be prepping us for the possibility that they'll sell the pick or swap into next year.

Again, super athletic might be an overstatement, but here is a very quick list of guys with familiar names from drafts in the last 10 years or so:

Patrick O'Bryant
Alexis Ajinka
Brandan Wright
Oleksiy Pecherov
Joel Freeland
Chiekh Samb
BJ Mullens
Martynas Andriuskevicius
Hasheem Thabeet (so far)
Loren Woods
Saer Sene
Chris Johnson
Nemanja Aleksandrov
Devon Hardin
Deji Akindele
Jackson Vroman
Trent Plaisted
Longar Longar

Huh?  The point is, compared to other guys available at 25, he is one of the least likely guys that you will "get minutes" out of.

You don't draft Tyler to get minutes, you draft Tyler to hopefully get an All-Star.  If you want minutes, you take a safer pick.

I believe you mean NBA Champion Gabe Pruitt.
