Where there is smoke there is fire... sure does sound like he is Boston-bound.
I remember the year that Rondo was drafted, there was all kinds of chatter about Ainge being in love with him and angling to get him. Ultimately, he pulled the trade with Phoenix to make it happen.
I trust Ainge's instincts. I don't think there is any way in the world he makes a guarantee unless he feels strongly a player has a chance at greatness. RJ certainly has lots of qualities that could put him near the top of this class. I see him as a potential Dwayne Wade-type player... similar size (though perhaps even longer, in terms of wingspan), with an ability to get to the hoop.
The real question, again if this is true, is what kind of player he sees him being. Is he a two-guard he grooms to replace Allen or is he a point guard to repalce Rondo, who could be shopped for a proven big man (Al Jefferson, anyone?)
I kind of like the idea of pairing him with Rondo in the back court. They could be scary good defensively together eventually and the fast breaks would be electric.
Everyone putting Jackson down is basing this on low projections on "expert" mock drafts. But those projections are artificially low because Jackson skipped the combine and has not worked out with anyone. I'd be very excited about this pick.
