I know this is at the bottom of everyone's to do list, but I thought he steadily improved and was a contributor to this team. He has decent 3 point range, can slash and dish ala Tony Allen, and showed serviceable D. I hope Celts make a serious effort to re-sign him.

I don't know if Wafer was banged up, but Doc essentially stopped playing him for the last two months of the regular season after playing him erratically before that.  He did play 45 and 36 minutes in the final two games before the playoffs.

I'd love to have him back, but my guess is that Von played well enough this year to earn himself a contract with a bad team that could guarantee him 5-10 minutes a game.

Professionally, he's got to take a deal that could land him some burn.

I would definitely be okay with Wafer back on a cheap/fair contract.  I expected nothing from him this year -- I was a doubter, to say the least -- but he performed better than I expected.
Celtics fan for life.

Mike

He was banged up something with his foot or his ankle. I remember he was in a walking boot for a little. I think it was right around the time Krstic and Murphy maybe were injured.

Calf injury, I think. He must have caught what Shaq had.

I say bring him back, he showed a lot of improvement on the defensive end in his first year with the Celtics. I think further improvement could lead to him being a rotation player.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Wafer brings a lot of what the C's are missing (athletic, can take it to the hole).  The problem is Doc chooses not to play him.  If that's going to be the case again next it really matters not if he comes back; you'll barely notice him.

cosign this entire thread... I honestly don't understand Doc's reluctance.

Think he earned a spot for the right price. Need a spark plug off the bench. Would like to see Bradley, West, Wafer and Green as a small back up unit.

Doc was giving him decent minutes until he got hurt. By the time he came back, Delonte was back, and ate up most of his minutes.

I'm on the fence about Wafer. Yeah, he bought in. He showed some flashes. But if he really got it, why didn't we see him more to give Pierce and Ray a rest during the regular season? Why did force Danny to make a move when Marquis went down? Why did Delonte & Ray--even Paul--get all the minutes at the 2 during the playoffs?

Because Doc never played Wafer. Remember though when Paul Pierce went really, really cold (as in only one field goal if I remember correctly) in a win against the Heat, Von Wafer was huge. Right before that Heat game, Von Wafer was also owning the Lakers.

But that's my point--if Wafer was good enough, why didn't he play? Because Doc wanted to lose? Because Doc wanted to run Pierce into the ground? There's a reason he didn't play much, and that's really what concerns me.

Doc seems to have trust issues. Best case in point is Big Baby Davis and Rondo. Big Baby was playing like crap in the playoffs and Doc still played him when he could have gone to Jermaine as center or something like that. In game 4 (I believe) against the Heat, Rondo was turning the ball over again and again and made the team really, really cold. It was not until overtime (I think) that Doc benched Rondo and played Delonte. By then it was too little too late. Delonte was playing great as well.

Von Wafer's play was stellar for his price this season. If any, the reason he didn't play much was because of his injury. But during one of the last games against the Wizards, it was clear that the injury did not harm his game.

Von Wafer should be back, I'm not saying he will be, but he should be. Doc's funnel vision lineups have screwed the Celtics before and will do it again.
