The Cavs offered their number 4 pick and their TPE for Rudy Gay, Memphis rejected.

This wasn't such a good idea for Cleveland anyway, they need to wait for Baron to expire or trade him, trade Hickson and Varejao while they have value, I think they revisit this trade if they are able to draft Derrick Williams with the 4th pick, they could add Hickson in their deal...
Or just go for Iguodala...

Interesting.  So much for Gay being available in a salary dump.

Be a great trade for the Cavs Id say. And it really wouldnt be too bad for Memphis either, however, they can get more value for Gay and add more pieces to build on their teams playoff run this year. Gay seems to be expendable now even though he was playing superb before the injury... Memphis dont need a young number 4 pick though, they need a couple more veterans to bolster their rotation.

Yeah, I wonder if they would have a different answer if the pick was in the top 2?

Yeah, I think he can be had for a reasonable price, but the #4 pick in this draft is pretty worthless.  There are two really good players, and one who could potentially be really good (but is basically just Marc Gasol 2.0).

Disagree, Gay puts them over the top and in to contender status.

traded player exception.  They received it from Miami when they traded Lebron to the Heat.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I don't understand why people think Gay is so available and for Pennies?

Memphis played pretty remarkable without him but shouldn't Gay, in theory push them that much further?

Is memphis known as a cheap team? Do they not have enough money to retain their other guys as well? Is Gay's value at it's peak now?

Teams can sometimes play above their heads and then just drop the next season (Bucks). Isn't it kid of knee jerk and premmature to think "we did great without Gay we don't need him". It was also one of the few Tony Allen injury free seasons in a while which is something I wouldn't bank on either.

I really think the Grizzlies management and ownership are committed to Gay and I think people are fooling themselves if they think that the Griz are going forward with Shane Battier, Tony Allen or OJ Mayo as their starting SF.

My guess is they let Battier and his $7.3 million a year walk and sign Gasol and stay put with the young, athletic and talented bunch they have.

Maybe if it was the 1st overall pick.

Completely agree (and also kudos to the poster above who pointed out that this year was really Tony's first "injury-free" year -- suggesting that Memphis might not be so lucky going forward).
