Per CSNNE.com :

Quote
Doc Rivers will be with the Celtics for at least five more years.

The team's director of basketball operations, Danny Ainge, told CSNNE's Greg Dickerson that Rivers has reached agreement on a five-year contract extension. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Celtics will pay Rivers $35 million over that period.

Good news, I guess. This mean Doc is really OK with coaching the team in rebuilding mode and the lure of being a Celtics coach "for life" is huge for him.

Having a coach players respect and enjoy playing with locked up can only help the Celtics draw players.

Mainly for my own sanity, I am going to assume Doc only signed this because Danny has an incredible plan to keep this team contending for the foreseeable future, and there is no "blow up" in sight.

If he had joined another team (especially a team we disliked), the popularity of the sig would have gone up.   ;)

Yet another reason I'm hoping we don't "blow it up".  I like Doc coaching a contending team, but as the coach of a rebuilding franchise he drove me batty.

Nice. Contending or re-building I'm happy to have Doc along for the ride.I like his idea of being our Jerry Sloan. Hope his tenure ends on a much happier note and is filled with a few more titles and great memories.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

LOVE IT. Hope Doc stays for even longer.

Even if we get in rebuilding/youth movement Doc has gained a lot of respect I think around the league and proved that he can not only handle but thrive with superstar's and their "ego's". He has proven he can win and player's have indicated they love playing with him.

With their championship and years of contention along with what Doc has lived up to, I think any borderline decision made by a players wanting or not wanting to come here will be influenced in a good way with Doc on our side.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
best news I've had all week!
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Thought the same thing. Really happy Doc is going to be back for years to come great news. I do feel like Danny promised him that these past few years wont be his only chance to coach for a ring, and will have chances in the future!

I agree.  Here's hoping Ainge has a trick up his sleeve.  I want a blockbuster, but not a blow up.
