After this year should the Celtics blow it up?

By blow it up, I mean keep Rondo and Pierce and rebuild from there.

It's a simple yes or no question.

Yeah.  We've gotten as much as we're gonna get out of this core.  The NBA landscape has changed, and the team as currently constructed can no longer realistically compete for a title.

Sticking with the current group will only garner us a couple more 2nd round exits.

Many will say that there's not much Danny can do this summer to start the rebuilding process, but I think that he needs to do whatever he can to start that process, at least.  The window has closed and the time has come to start to move on.

Nope.

And that's even IF MIA wins on Wednesday.

  • Thank you Eddie!
The idea of watching this team struggle through the end of the season to get to the playoffs only to lose to Miami, Chicago, and New York in the second round again next year is enough to make me root for a lockout since this team was set to blow up in 2012 by default.  (Pierce and Rondo are the only guys signed beond next year)

To be honest, we might as well trade PP too. So yeah, I'm thinking we should blow it up.  If we couldn't beat this team now, we aren't going to beat them next year either.

PP deserves to retire as a Celtic. End of story, IMO.

TP.

Trade Ray Allen and KG while they still have value. I love them but they aren't going anywhere except a retirement home anytime soon.

I voted NO, but it depends on what happens with the season next year.  Could be a shortened season, and the old guys could thrive if that were the case -- they wouldn't get worn down over the course of 82 regular season games....

No.  I have very little desire to lose 55+ games again.

The Celtics were already blown up with the Kendrick Perkins trade.

I started typing yes blow it up, but I think you owe it to the big 3 to give it one more shot. Let’s see if we can get a healthy Shaq and JO back out there next year at minimum deals. Try and sign D West again. Make an effort to get Deron Williams in a trade for Rondo and filler. Let BBD walk. Sign Wafer again. Let Kristic walk and try and sign another big defensive center and PF. Then fill it with some more young athletes. We will win 50+ games and contend again. You never know what will happen. If it isn’t working by the trade deadline try and move Ray and KG’s contracts for young talent and picks.

But you'd rather win 45-55 and get beaten in the 2nd round again?

I guess I can appreciate where you're coming from, but to me any season that puts us farther away from being a contender instead of bringing us closer to being one is a waste of a season.

There's no trophy for making the playoffs or winning a single series, and you can't build a championship contender with late first round picks.

You have got to be kidding.  *facepalm*
