Conspiracy Theory:

Rajon Rondo is purposefully playing bad.  He let both D Rose and the Miami Heat get a false sense of confidence against him.

OK so hes not purposefully playing bad but rather he made the conscious decision to save that extra intensity for the playoffs when he could have unleashed it over the past few games. And everyone else is in on it.   KG, Pierce, Ray, Doc, Ainge, everyone.  Hes gonna continue to play poorly these next 2 games.

Ok so this a huuge stretch.   But cmon how sweet would that be.   ;D

Makes as much since as any other reasoning that optimists are using at this point

Have to love the fan base for unrelenting optimism and even conspiracy theories/excuse for why players aren't playing how they should.

I just can't fathom ANY reason that Rondo or anyone else would take a game off against two elite teams to trick them into thinking they are a better team.

Hell, i'de be willing to bet that beating a team 4-0 does more damage to their ego then rallying and winning the last game of a 4 game series.

In my opinion , outplayed>over confidence any day of the week.

Yeah that's a great idea, let's give up Seed no.1 and no.2 and give our biggest and most dangerous rivals the confidence that they can beat us down! That should make the road to the championship so much easier!

Best idea ever! (Even better an idea than blowing up a successful roster in mid season!)

I was actually starting to buy the theory that Rondo was not driving and passing up open layups so when the playoffs came everybody would just be playing him for the pass and he'd be able to shift into his 20ppg mode.  However he's taking those layups now so I guess he was just being stupid.

Your theory on the other hand... ::)
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Excuse?  or super-genius strategy?

I think Rondo gives up when he's outclassed at point guard. This is not backed up by research, and is purely anecdotal, but it seems like he stops trying if the other point guard is doing well, and keeps going hard when the other pg stinks. It's almost like if the opposing PG lights it up, he thinks people won't notice the discrepancy if Rondo just defers more. But if he's clearly going all out, just like the opposition is, and he's just outplayed by a little bit, it will be more obvious he is outplayed, so he just drifts by instead.

TP to shookones99.

The theory here is a stretch(I hope), but Rajon Rondo certainly seemed to be holding out for something.

Even with DRose being a great player and Lebron and Wade of course being great in their own way, there is NO WAY that the Rajon Rondo we've seen at times this season is the REAL McCoy...no way in the world.

Rajon was simply marvelous last year's playoffs...and the year before that. He guarded Lebron. He carried Boston. He made CLE adjust to HIM, not the other way around. He practically confounded ORL. Mark Jackson even compared him to Larry. He didn't even play THAT BAD against LA last June, either.

The man played himself onto the cover of Sports Illustrated last May, for crying out loud ;D.

Please - would the REAL RAJON RONDO stand up?

Just posted this theory in another thread, but its a possibility Rondo remembers being totally gassed in the finals last year. Remember how worn down he looked then? If Rondo can stay aggressive and be the Rondo we know and love for all of the playoffs at the cost of a few regular season games, I'll take it.

I think there's a better chance that Shaq (minus the strain) never really was that hurt and DA simply wanted to rest/condition him for the playoffs.

Assuming he recovers from this relatively minor strain, I wouldn't be surprised to see him play even better than he did in the first half of the year.
