who were the others to say that they were glad that the C's traded Perk?  I remember that there were others (Lakers? Bulls? LeBron/Wade?)

anyone have links?  I'm curious to see just how pervasive these sentiments have been

I think one of the main places I heard this was Bill Simmons' podcast, so unless someone has the transcript somewhere, I don't know if I could get the word-for-word quotes (and he might have been paraphrasing for effect anyway)

Well, I know Scal said this on Toucher and Rich last Thursday, and then Rose said the same thing after the game.

It's weird how when teams win they say this stuff.

If Miami lost yesterday would Bosh being saying this?

The Spurs lost to us without Perk and I didn't hear Manu, Duncan, or Parker talking about how much the Celts were missing

Lol that's kind of the point.  If we had Perk, we would be winning and they couldn't say anything

I know Gasol was also quoted as saying the same kind of thing and Rose and Noah also echoed these sentiments.

Kind of an aside, but I listened to part of the pregame and 1st quarter of the Washington game on the radio and at some point they were talking about Scal talking to some of the Celts players before the game, saying that he didn't think that they realized what a big game the Bulls players thought it was.

Of course, the players know we're the best team even though the "experts" don't.  Every single team steps it up when they play us and most often role players end up having season-high games against us.

When it comes to top teams they bring their best because they know it's not going to be easy scoring on our defense.  Also I'm sure some teams try to "send a message" or get revenge for a previous butt-kicking (Hawks sweeping us last year).

The Celtics on the other hand...  I bet they went into Chicago with the same mindset as a Wolves game.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

This over romanticizing of Perkins and reconstruction of the past is getting out of control.  Is there a good argument that we may need Perk come playoff time?  Yes.  However, this notion that we'd be kicking butt if Perk was here is patently unfounded.

Is it possible that we may have a slightly better record if Perk was here?  Maybe.  But as many have already pointed out, Perk missed the first half of the season when we're kicking butt.  And even if you subscribe to the myth that "Perk gave us toughness from the sideline in street clothes" that some people are touting, Perk was very much here and part of the 27-27 skid last year where teams routinely pounded us (and Perk) into the ground.

So how people are now going to claim that this team would be so much tougher if Perk was here is beyond me.  Did people forget last year?

And while I'm very disgusted by the play of this team and find it very, very hard to watch.  I don't see why people want to rule out this team "flipping it on" in the postseason when they skidded even worse last year.

I have to disagree, Perkins isn't going to solve our scoring woes.  Perkins wasn't going to be that offensive inside presence we need right now to help make things easier for us offensively.   I'm sure Perk would have helped defensively yesterday, but a 23 point swing? Let's get serious.
do it

Yeah we might miss Perk in a grueling 7 games series but if we get swept or lose in 5 are people are here really going to think that Perk would have made a difference?

Same thing with yesterday. Ok if we lost by 2 or 4 I could even understand this argument but getting smoked by Chicago or the Heat has very little to do with Perk.
