Max Contract Players
  • Dwight Howard
  • Kevin Garnett
  • Pau Gasol
  • Dirk Nowitzki
Borderline Max Contract Players
  • Chris Bosh
  • Blake Griffin (more in a year or two than today)
Valued Around $15 Million
  • Amare Stoudemire
  • Tim Duncan
  • Carlos Boozer
  • Andrew Bynum (borderline - still establishing consistency)
$13-$15 Million
  • Joakim Noah
  • LaMarcus Aldridge
$11-13 Million
  • Lamar Odom
  • Tyson Chandler
  • Brook Lopez
  • Zach Randolph
  • Andrew Bogut
  • Al Horford
  • Josh Smith (borderline)
$8-$11 Million
  • David West
  • Paul Millsap
  • Luis Scola
  • Kevin Love
  • Anderson Varejao
  • Serge Ibaka
  • Marc Gasol
  • Al Jefferson
  • Samuel Dalembert
  • Brendan Haywood (borderline)
  • Kendrick Perkins (borderline)

Just for the heck of it, who still gets those dollars if you signed them to a 5 year deal like in the OP?
Just knock off the guys who are too old -- Garnett, Dirk, Duncan

Some guys ages I am not too sure on (Boozer, Z-Bo, Odom, Pau) ... feeling lazy, don't wish to check each guy's age ... so I'll just leave that alone.

In terms of max contracts, that only leaves, what, four guys? Dwight, Blake, Bosh and maybe Pau ... who have shown themselves to be max contract worthy talents.

Deserves max after this season:
Dwight
Amare

Deserves max but not 5-6 years:
Dirk
P Gasol
Griffin (hasn't earned it yet)
KG (1 year)

Could get max from dumb GM:
Aldridge
Brook Lopez
Love
Randolph
David West
Bosh
Jefferson
David Lee
Bogut
Bynum

On the edge:
Beasley
Scola
Boozer
Millsap
Josh Smith
Horford
Brand
Odom (as a starter)
Duncan

Possibility of moving to next tier:
Chandler
Nene
Kaman
Hibbert
M Gasol
Noah

Let me know if i missed anyone.

I think Bynum will soon challenge Dwight as the best true center in the league.  The kid's like 22.  He's been unlucky with injuries but he'll be alright.  I don't think it's a big risk to give Love, Aldridge or Z. Randolph a max contract.  Those guys will give you a very efficient 20-10 consistently.
Notable exceptions (at least on the edge )... Shame on you for not including Perk.  Marcin Gortat, D. Jordan, McGee, Serge Ibaka, Jermaine O'Neal (he's only 32!) Jamison, Varejao, Gallinari, Bargnani, Shawn "The Matrix" Marion, Gerald Wallace, Greg Oden and Yao Ming (if he doesn't retire).
Ooh Oden, forgot about him.  I'd put him on the edge because a GM would have to really be brain-dead to pay that much for a guy who has never really played, potential be [dang]ed.  Yao is too old to command that much after that many injured seasons.  Bargs is the only other guy I would put in the "could move up" category, I don't think any of others you listed will sniff even close to max money.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Greg Oden, I think is worth $8-10 million since he has only shown so far that he can produce in 24-25 minutes a night ... assuming he can still perform at the level he was at when last healthy (almost two years ago now so who knows if that is even possible anymore).

If he gets up to 27-29 minutes, while maintaining his level of performance, I'd bump him up to the $10-13 million range. And if he can get up to the 30-33 minute range, I think he is firmly in the $15 million ball park.

If he can stay healthy(ish) ...

Why not?  The guys I listed play good defense which doesn't show up well on the stats.  Is offense the only thing you will pay for?  Besides some of these guys (Wallace, Marion, Gortat and Gallo) have numbers comparable to guys like Brand, Smith, Duncan (whose awesome but having  career lows all over the place), Lee etc.

Jeez, that may be it.  Bosh, Aldridge, and Horford are all close for me, but I'd wouldn't want to give them a max six year deal.
