I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Big Al, but I'm not pining for him to return

Ditto.
(oh and TP for the great quotes on the splash page).

I don't see it happening.

I love Big Al for his time and full out effort while in green but I just don't see Danny looking at him as an option.  I also don't think we matchup well with Utah as a trading partner.

They'd probably be most interested in Green but moving him makes the Perk trade a waste since Danny picked up Green to backup/replace PP.

If Danny made the trade and only moved BBD or Krstic (with maybe JO for salary relief and either Bradley or a #1 for sweetener), I'd be all for it.

I used to think he'd be a big star, but he really hasn't gotten any better since that first year in Minny.  It might be telling that Al's numbers are much better now that the Jazz are losing.

His multiple injuries haven't helped him.

This would be great, Big Al is undervalued in the league, he is an all star.
I do not understand the Jazz, is incredible.
Jefferson is a star.

When this team retools, it needs to get younger. Al and Rondo are not a good fit. Al has a poor injury history. Al plays poor defense. Al is overpaid, at this point.

I'd believe the Cs will work to Rondo's strengths for the future, and they've already started that -- or at least think they have -- with the Perk trade. That'll continue to, which means they're not trading for Big Al.

I would trade/sign and trade ray allen....he'd look good in a utah uniform.....along with BBD and a #1....that has to be somewhat compelling for the Jazz

The Jazz are losing (and Al's numbers are up) because they traded Deron Williams.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
We do not have the assets to land Jefferson unless we are trading Rondo. That said, I wonder what type of influence KG could have on the defensive abilities and desire to play defense of Big Al.

I don't really think it's about desire with Al Jeff. He's terrible at defending the pick & roll. Some of it is poor anticipation and a lot of it is terrible lateral movement.

Al's one of those guys whose teams never seem to win much.  If he were that good, his teams would be out performing expections instead of under performing.

Plus he still can't defend.  I'll pass on the return of Big Al.

That's definitely why the Jazz are losing, but Al's rebounding numbers have shot up since Williams left.  It's almost like since he is getting more shots, he is happier and will do more of the dirty work.

OR, perhaps he's trying to take on more of a leadership role now that Deron's not there to lead the team.  That would seem to be more in line with how he was in Boston.

I think in the right situation, Al can be a hell of a player on a team with other really good players.  I was never sold on the idea that the KG trade had to happen to get that championship.  Big Al in the post with Ray and PP playing outside would be a heck of an offense (never mind with Rondo's playmaking and Perk around to clean up on the offensive glass).  I know I'm in the extreme minority on that but we have a title and that's a wonderful thing.

Al Jefferson is a really good player, and a team with several really good, low-level star players is going to be a playoff team and will compete.

If he suddenly was on our team today, he'd be the second best big man next to KG, and would start at C.

If he were on our team, he could be the "bailout guy" who can create his own shot, especially in a couple of years as the old timers fade away.  He can get a bucket to stop an opposing team's run.

He would fit in fine with Rondo.  Bigs are usually trailers on the break anyway, and he can finish on the run as well as in the post.

He would add a lot of offense and rebounding to the next version of the team core.

And his defense blows.  He might give it more attention in a team culture that is committed on the defensive end.

His contract is less than max, but still a bucket of money, but expires in 2013, which isn't too long of a committment to trying out the combination.

And, if this weren't enough, if/when Doc hangs it up, we'll be perfectly positioned for the return of McHale to the sidelines!

This, to me, would probably get it done and would be worth it. I can see this rubbing a lot of people the wrong way, as we all have dreams of Ray effectively playing for the Cs for the next 5-6 years, but Al would be a great catch, especially for an aging star. He has his faults, but is still an excellent offensive player.

two posts i like here, they are going to build around the best player rondo, green is already in place, i feel like the celts will make a run at howard or a mobile big and turn into the 70's celtics
al is not an all star
would you take al or aldridge? who didn't make all star team??
