Boston has some of the best medical care in the country. Now he is saying that it will take 6 months. No rotation! Why, when they have athletes who are making millions of dollars would the Celtics allow Delonte to play before he is ready, setting back his recovery and potentially damaging his long term prospects.

Boston has some of the best Doctors in the world, not wizards.  No one can make his wrist heal faster than it would naturally.

They seem to believe that while it is going to take a while for his full range of motion to return, he is not at a great risk of causing more damage by playing now.  So, if he can be effective with it how it is (which I don't see why not, because he never uses that hand anyways), then it makes sense for him to play while he is rehabbing.

As for his long term prospects, he may be on his last strike in the NBA.  He is majorly damaged goods, and he needs to prove that he is both mentally fit, and can provide enough on the court to make it worth the risk for a team to sign him next year.  If he does not play through this, there is a chance he will struggle to get another contract.

His wrist is made of glass.  I wouldn't be surprised if it never fully heals

Delonte and the team both want him to play this year, sometimes a broken bone isn't right for a very long time no matter what you do.

Brian Urlacher missed an entire season due to a tiny bone break in his wrist, it happens.

He looked fine before he hurt his ankle. Shot well, was able to handle the ball.  Not worried about this. Any broken bone takes a long time to fully recover.

West has always played with a recklessness that, along with his frame, makes him suceptible to such injuries.

We have known for a while that the wrist wouldnt fully heal until the offseason. He can still play though.

+1. Exactly my thoughts. This "update" is really just an afterthought and not the main story of the article.

I too thought Delonte was doing well.  At the same time, there is no question in my mind that I saw West "pull up" on several plays to the basket because he was afraid to go to the ground (and potentially land on the wrist).

But I love Delonte as a player.  Hopefully he can give us everything he's got and doesn't get reinjured.

He wants to compete so bad , I think he does put himself in aweward situations more than he should.

Don't panic,I think what he is saying to EVERYBODY is that to get back to his pre injury form , he needs more time. Guys PLEASE be patient.   ;)

With one arm , He still shoots better than Rhondo .  SO , I'll take him , his forces a nice game tempo and gets the bigs to moving.  Something Rhondo has fallen off past few games.

With West and Baby in the line up , we can still win Most of our games.

But to go the distance we're going to have to get Shaq out of the Nursing home for the playoffs  :)

Folks, I don't get it. A lot of fellows, who break their dominant front arm, start writing with the other hand and become ambidextrous within 3 weeks.

For West and other players, why don't they start dribbing/shooting with their left (or right) hand? The 2-3 months of recuperation could be used in building a 2nd skill set which would then give him some excellent tools to beat many defenders.

Delonte is fine.

He played like a beast his first game back against the Clippers before the ankle sprain.

Whats funny is that hes still a better shooter then Rondo with a broken wrist.

That to me is hilarious, even if it isnt his shooting hand.

You would think Rondo would pull motivation to work on his shot from these things, but he doesent.

Wait...why have we moved to assuming Rondo doesn't practice his shot, again?

Because if he did he wouldnt be airballing wide open jumpshots during games.

Rondo has been a bad shooter for his entire career with only slight improvement, I think its a pretty reasonable assumption to see that he doesent practice shooting much.

Rondo practicing shooting is like Shaq practicing three point shots.

Thats just not their game, why waste time on it.

Such a tired and lame explanation.

How on earth do you think he would earn respect on this team if he didn't work at a glaring weakness in his game? multiple reports/articles say he does, so do teammates.

The simple fact is, some people suck at shooting. I know we all like to tell ourselves that if we made millions of dollars and our only concern was basketball and we practiced the ridiculous amounts these guys do we'd all be ray Allen, and failure to achieve at least a average NBA jumper is a sign of disinterest/laziness on the part of a player but it just isn't true.

Jason Kidd is, from all accounts, one of the true gym rats of the game, and it took him ten years to develop ONE set shot that teams have to fear, that three from slightly off line at the top of the key.

Do you think his inability to shoot is because he's

A) Lazy and never practices, despite all reports

or

B) linked to the fact that his ceiling is "not very good" as a shooter
