I was doing some research and found the following info from a Feb. 2 RealGM article to be amazing:

How pathetic is Rondo’s free throw shooting in 2010-11? Beyond belief pathetic. In 2010-11, Rondo had made only 33 free throws in 37 games (updated numbers show Rondo has made 54 free throws in 51 games -- still pitiful). In the entire history of the NBA, going back to the 46-47 season, for every single NBA player who averaged at least 35 minutes-per-game—in effect, for most every NBA starting player—there is only one player in NBA history has made fewer free throws on a per-minute basis. Only one player in one season in 65 years. Dennis Rodman in 93-94 with the San Antonio Spurs.

Rondo's free throw attempts per game has declined every season since he has been in the league.  :o

Chris Paul makes approximately five free throws per game and shoots over 90 percent from the line. Deron Williams has seen his made free throws (per 36 minutes) increase from 1.5 in his rookie year to 5.8 (per 36 minutes) this season, and his free throw percentage has gone from .704 to .844. Derrick Rose has seen his made free throws go from 2.4 (per 36 minutes) in his rookie year to 4.8 (per 36 minutes) in this his third year and his free throw percentage has improved to better than 82%

Geez. They're some serious stats Vinnie.

What do you say do that ?! Is it an attitude problem that's stopping him?

Rondo is an incredible talent. But ias I have been saying for a few weeks, felines will be one on on the floor at the end of close games because rondo's inability to shoot continues to be a huge problem.

Huh? Felines? as in Cats..or the other members of the feline family? Why would felines be on a basketball court? The only wildlife I've seen in an NBA arena is that Hawk...unless you include Detroit and LA fans. :P

If only Rondo could play defense like Rodman, this wouldn't be a big deal.

He could play defense like a Payton-Kidd hybrid and someone would still start a thread every time he got caught on a pick.

I thought Rondo played fairly good last night. Other than a couple of plays where I shook my head defensively, he was good. Was running our offense well (except for a couple of times where he passed up some layups) and he had us at a good pace.

Rondo certainly wasn't the problem last night. Hell, he was hitting his jumpers.

He has to stop being cute and fancy though, it cost us some easy baskets. Particularly when you're down 10 or so points when possessions are quite valuable and you're wasting possessions like that.

He needs to finish better also.

Rondo's free throw attempts per game has declined every season since he has been in the league.  :o

Nice bit of research. Just curious, but do you ever do research to show what a good defender or passer or rebounder Rondo is, or do you only look for ways to make him look bad? Because if that's your plan, you'd greatly enhance your case if you could do some research to show that Rondo has never made an all-star team or all-defense team. Just a thought.

As for your results, I ran three checks, all for players who played 25+ minutes. If you're interested in starters you could do that as well but playing the majority of the minutes seems good enough. I checked worst individual seasons (minimum 41 games), worst career totals in first 5 years (minimum 150 games) and worst career totals (minimum 250 games). Many people were tied with Rondo but here is the number of players that had worse numbers:

  FT made per game

  Single season 117
Career total first 5 years 72
  Career total 78

  FT made per minute played

  Single season 36
Career total first 5 years 45
  Career total 36

One would wonder how many times their search was run with different parameters to come up with the one that made Rondo look the worst.

Oh, and Rondo's free throw attempts per game have *not* declined every year he's been in the league.

^^^^^^^^^

I got it from this article. Maybe the guy is making up everything, I don't know: http://basketball.realgm.com/article/210586

And, this is the one paragraph comparing him to every other player since 1946-47:

How pathetic is Rondo’s free throw shooting in 2010-11? Beyond belief pathetic. He has made only 33 free throws in 37 games. But that barely begins to capture the enormity of his lameness.

As far as making a case, that is not what I am trying to do. I was just looking over the past several box scores and saw that Rondo is basically not taking any free throws and I was wondering how that compared to other points guard.

Rondo is a fine defensive player and an excellent point guard. I also think it is fair, however, to point out a valid flaw in his game.

He should be a 75% free throw shooter...it's all psychological.

He could easily force contact to get 4 more free throws a game. He just doesn't want to. It's been in his head for years now.

He just has to man up...

There's probably a pretty big difference between 25+ minutes and 35+.  35 takes a lot of bigs out of the picture and they are typically the worse FT shooters.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
