I just came across this quote via CelticsHub:

Quote
”People don’t know this, but Tom had a choice of two jobs. That was New Orleans or Chicago,” Rivers said. “New Orleans at the time was offering him more money. He was going to take that job because of the money and I kept saying, ‘The Bulls have players, that’s where you go. The money follows after the players.’ Obviously I’m really happy that he took the right job.

Dang it, Doc!  Why couldn't you just leave well enough alone, and let the man enjoy his pay check? ;)

Doc was just looking forward to humiliate Thibs in the playoffs for leaving.

Good advice by Doc, if Thibs can have playoff success the next two years he'll get an extension and make up the money difference. As well as making him a successful head coach, which means even if he gets fired he will likely get another bite at the apple eventually.

He's certainly exceeded my expectations of him in Chicago.

He's doing a heckuva job there.

Isn't Doc from Chicago?

I smell a conspiracy.

Love Doc's honesty. Telling a good friend great advice and putting him in a better position to win a championship. The Hornets, even though they are playing well this season, don't look to have a bright future with West testing free agency, no owner, and Chris Paul probably leaving in a couple years.

I thought this was going to blame Doc for not retiring and allowing Thibideau to slide into the C's head coach spot for the next decade.

Not to mention Chris Paul is not the same player. He went from Isiah Thomas like explosiveness to John Stockton steadiness. If that knee doesn't improve he will no longer be a top three pg. Rose and Williams are already ahead of him and he will have Westbrook, Rondo, and perhaps Wall leapfrogging him soon.

Interesting that Thibbs signed before the Boozer deal and Doc still said go where the players are.

The Bulls minus Boozer arent as good as the Hornets IMO...

Good find Roy, TP.

I think Doc gave Thibs good advice, and truthfully, I'm not scared of the Bulls.  8)

Thibs has done a good job, which surprises me a bit after watching his rotation management/overall style when he had to step in as head coach for Doc on those rare occasions the last few years.

I'm happy for Thibedoux - he deserves the success.

It is interesting the number of Bulls threads around here. I can understand having a healthy respect for an opponent, but being scared of a team?

The Bulls are well-coached, have a leading MVP-type player in Rose, very good bigs in Noah and Boozer, a very good wing in Deng, a very good bench....

But they can be beat.

As long as we can keep our core healthy, get most players back from injury - then The Celtics are also a team to be scared of.

Yes, but it was pretty clear the Bulls are in a position to get someone good -- where the Hornets weren't.

Can't complain about this.  KG has said on multiple occasions that Chauncey Billups (who was playing for Detroit at the time) said that his best opportunity to win would be with Boston.  Even though it was clear that Boston would have become a huge hurdle for Detroit in maintaining their stature of being the top team in the East.  Boston went on to beat Detroit in the 2008 ECF and the Pistons haven't been heard from since.

Doc was wrong.  If he wanted to go where the players were he should've stayed in Boston.  He was already making head coach money as an assistant right?  Half the work, half the fame, double the rings?  How much more money is he really making this year than last?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale
