Well now I really like DeAndre Jordan.

TP's for those who noted we could have drafted him isntead of Giddens.

Jordan was my pick and I was dumb founded that we would take Giddens over a 7 footer with exceptional athleticsim who would need time to mature - over JR Giddens - who also would need time to mature.

I really thought that Jordan was the ideal pick for us at that moment. I thought he had slipped and we could easily pack him away behind Perk and KG and let them develop him. WE didn't need to have him make any impact right away.

I didn't get it. How you would pass up a 7 footer with great athleticism?

I think no way the Clippers let him go, by the way.

Giddens was drafted Ainge made the mistake of drafting for a position of need rather than the best player available.

Jordan probably slipped because of the reasons that led some to project him as the next Patrick O'Bryant.

I seem to recall being disappointed that the Celtics didn't draft Luc Mbah a Moute and I think some people on this board wanted Mario Chalmers.

I've read in deandre's draft profile before that one of his weaknesses was he has a low basketball IQ.. Well,  POB got drafted in the top ten but i don't think he has ANY basketball IQ at all!

Over 2/3 of his baskets this year have been dunks ... pretty amazing, (I think Mike said he was second behind Griffin).

If Gorman had shutup it would've been better, this news makes me upset why they didn't draft him.

Giddens. I would say most people were scratching their heads with that pick.

I think the Clippers will lock Jordan up and trade Kaman.

I think almost all basketball commentators were very surprised by the Giddens pick.

I think POB's deficit was in his CQ--his caring quotient.

During the first quarter before Jordan started getting all his dunks Mike Gorman mentioned that the C's really like Jordan as a player. I am assuming he has heard this from Danny. It makes a lot of sense, Jordan would be a great fit with Rondo.

Jordan has tons of potential IMO. The guy is a Tyson Chandler in the making. On hoopsworld it says that he is an UFA after this year, but how much do you think teams will offer him?

I have to believe he will get a Perk type contract. I would gladly offer him the full MLE if he would take it , but he can probably get a bit more. To bad because a Rondo, Green, Jordan core would be really fun to watch.

I really like DeAndre too, he'd be a good fit with Rondo... Sad thing is, we drafted JR Giddens before him.

Was dumbfounded; but with Perk was not a priority.

Ainge drafts on value, not need. See: Avery Bradley. Giddens (next tp the Blount signing) was the biggest mistake of his tenure IMO (which is a compliment to Danny).

By the way, Jordan is on his rookie contract (i think), so he's an RFA. See here:

Does anybody think we could have given him enough time for him to develop like this?  He was just as raw if not moreso than giddens coming out.  Im not sure he would be who he is now if we drafted him

Yeah, I thought D.Jordan would have developed very well here.

To to be coached by Clifford Ray and to play under guys like Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins ... it would have been a fantastic situation for him to learn.

I just don't think he would have gotten enough PT

I don't think the playing time has been that important in D.Jordan's case. He wasn't ready to play until this season + the improvements he has made could have made outside of games.

It was basic fundamentals like defensive positioning ... were Jordan's biggest flaws ... which Clifford Ray teaches better than anyone else in the league + watching KG and Perk on a daily basis would have been huge.

Generally speaking, I think a solid amount of playing time (20mpg) is very important to developing a young player but in DeAndre Jordan's case (his exact flaws and age/inexperience) + specifically to this Boston team's roster and coaching staff ... I think Jordan could have learned those same lessons here in Boston without the playing time. A little quicker than he did in LAC too.

Back in the 2008 Draft, I was hoping the C's could get Marreese Speighs, Jason Thompson, Javale McGee or DeAndre Jordan... all of them but Jordan were gone when Danny had the chance to pick. All 4 of them are promising big men in the league, so we can agree it was a mistake not to pick Jordan.

While I'd love the idea of getting any of them in free agency or via trade, I don't think the price will be fair, and I don't see any of them going to the Celtics. Danny needs to resign Nenad for reasonable money and years, so he can be a useful player and a good trading chip eventually.

This summer, if Semih can be 100% healthy and willing to play in the NBA, I would try to send back the pick to Cleveland to get him. Cleveland still wins the trade, by getting Gody, and I think Semih will be a good backup C in the regular season.

The other player I'd like to see in green is Greg Oden. If Portland extends the qualifying offer the Celtics could work a trade package for him. If Baby isn't returning, they could send him in a sign-and-trade plus the trade exception from Quis to match the money. Oden would make almost 8 mil, so it might be worth to take the risk, and if it pays out, you could resign him and Green to multi-year contracts.

The O'Neals situation will depend on the Celtics winning #18 this june, and their health. If they win the ring, I guess they return for more. If not, they could retire, so the Celtics will need bigs.

I too was hoping the Celtics would draft Jordan when he came out.  But I'm guessing Ainge felt that Jordan shared too many of Perkins' offensive limitations.  Ainge perhaps worried that Doc would have two centers, neither of whom he could play during crunch time.  Just my hunch.

So was Giddens at #30 worse than Gerald Green at #18?  Maybe a little, but you really expect something at 18.
