Assuming they sign all FA...we would only have one spot open anyway...so that spot was going to go erden or harangody or the 2nd round pick from sacto or vet min or mle or lle...i think da made the right choice

The trade was made to clear roster spots for this year. Nothing more. I wish Danny got something more for the two guys, but I would guess most teams weren't willing to give up two roster spots/didn't have two roster spots to fill.

The trade makes no sense, however you cut it.  We aren't going to replace Erden with a better player

  Part of it's roster spots, part of it is saving double their salaries as it lowers the amount of luxury tax we have to pay.

yeah it has all to do with the luxury tax this year. our bigs consist of kg, bbd, shaq, jo, krstic, buyout guy

theres no way erdin or harangody were going to get much time during the season (if any at all), and then zero in the playoffs. might as well save the money.

but for the record, i thought we should ahve kept erdin.

I think that depends on how you view Erden.  While I was impressed with him, I think there are a lot of guys who are big upgrades over him for the playoff run this year (Murphy is certainly one of them).

Honestly, I just did not feel comfortable with having him play during the playoffs this year, even in case of an emergency.

Where it is a loss however, is in the future.  As he gains some weight, I think he will get better, and should be a quality rotation big man, and will likely gain value in the next couple of years.

I did hear somewhere however that he wants to return to Turkey next year, both because of the money, and because he is homesick.  And while I have no idea if it is true, that would make this deal make a lot more sense from a value standpoint.

We could have picked up Murphy by doing the Marquis trade.  I think it's going to be players #2 and #3 who decide whether the Cleveland trade was worth it.

An early second round for these two players would be a very easy decision for me. Relatively limited ceiling as borderline rotation players, 9th/10th man material. Not even certain they'll get there, probably not. Players of this level are always available for cheap.

There are guys playing in Europe that can replace Erden's contributions and then some. Ditto for Harangody, I think (I never got a good feel about Harangody's game though).

I think that there are several reasons for this trade:

1. Neither of them would see minutes in the playoffs. They can hold their own against lesser teams, but not against the elite. 2. They will both be better off on a team like the Cavs, where there is no reason not to play them.
3. A 2nd round pick is a better asset than any of them, since they won't come up as "needed" players any time soon.
4. The roster places are needed - and a free agent big will be happier to join, if there isn't a big Turkish guy on the bench.
5. I've seen Doc joking that Erden didn't seem to understand, what he was saying. I guess that this is based on a real communication problem, and that Doc probably lost his patience. This could add to Semih feeling homesick.
