I'm not sure why this hasn't been discussed yet, but i believe its entirely possible that Perkins might resign here in the offseason.

Remember that Danny said that Perk wanted to "test the market", meaning that he wasnt open to signing an extension during the season. So Danny did what we would hope - he got value for him while he could. He didnt say Perk wanted to leave - just to test the market.

From OKC's point of view, they gets to rent a big man for a playoff run this year, and they will have the same shot as anyone else to resign him in the offseason.

When Perk sees that his demand of 10 mil per year is not realistic, then Danny will be there with a fair value offer and we will all be reunited again.

I dont believe this is the last time we see Perk in green...

Thoughts?

Would love it, but not sure I believe it.
“Being a Celtic is, every decision you make is about the team. Every cut you make is about the team. Every pass you make is about the team. You take yourself out of it. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t want to win, don’t want to play team basketball, and it’s more about you then you’re probably not a Celtic." Doc 2010

Doubt it. From my perspective, the Cs just showed Perkins they value BBD over him, and would rather pay him.

It'd be entirely up to Perk, wouldn't it?  He's not going to make the most money here, but nobody's going to stop him from taking a self-inflicted hometown haircut.

Personally, I think the money is out there if he wants it, even if not with OKC so it's just a matter of deciding what his priorities are.

If we win the title this year I think that would be too tough a pill for Perk to swallow to consider coming back.

Perk just got booted by a management team that said he was going nowhere that he put complete trust and faith in. He wanted to be here, made that public, seemed like he would take a reasonable deal to stay here and was still given the boot. I think he goes to the highest bidder now.

Perk also made plenty of "it's a business" and he'll "have to see" noises this year as well.  Oklahoma is a great spot for him, and by giving them a head start with Perk, the C's may have diverted him from Miami.

Truly, he was going to the highest bidder all along.

With his last contract, he took years/security over waiting and going for market value.  At some point, perhaps when a player is approaching their peak years and with a ring already on the resume, it is natural, normal, and to be expected that they take care of business.

Will we even have the cap room?  Before the trade, he was our player, which was a salary cap advantage.

Danny will be able to offer the MLE; other teams can offer much more.
Case closed.

No, Perk's gone for at least the forseeable future.  Even if he was willing, unless the market is terrible for him he's not coming back here, because we're not going to pay much for him.

It looks pretty clear that Danny is eying 2012 as the big makeover year for the team.  Signing Perk to a large deal interferes with that, especially if the team is looking specifically at Howard, which I think they are.

Nope he probably rather go to Miami, be for it even less money as a little revenge.

I couldn't even be mad at him either.

It would be awesome to get Howard, obviously, but then what do we do about Green? Will we be able to offer him any more than the MLE? And if he accepted that, what about KG or Ray, are they really going to take veteran minimum contracts to stay on in their old age? I guess all of that will remain to be seen and we can just hope that over these next couple of years, we can pull out a championship or two.

Yep, and Miami would be a good fit for him too. And he'd get some rings out of it.
