Why trade with Cavs?

Anybody else questioning why we traded with the Cavs? I mean why give up Semih and Luke for a 2nd rounder? Idk if I would even consider it for a 1st rounder that isn't a lottery pick. Semih is a good center who can give us regular season minutes to rest Shaq and JO, especially with Perk out of town. I'm not concerned about Luke but Semih will make it in the NBA as a 3rd string or maybe even a 2nd string big. The odds are against whoever we get as an early 2nd rounder. We are hurting in size. I'm just confused...

Those guys are not difference makers.  Both were taken in the 2nd round, so it' likely you can replace their production with an early second rounder.  But, the main reason, is that Danny obviously wants to sign some buyouts.

I'm confused by this move because those guys played well for us and gave us depth at a position we needed it. Now what? I don't like that we got nothing in return, basically. A lot of people aren't fans of Luke but I was... he didn't play defense but we could score and rebound. I could see him turning into Troy Murphy and Semih was size and could rebound (kinda)... idk. We need some bigs.

I guess to open up roster spaces AND get them off the books. simply cutting both would cost like $2 million for nothing.

So, they got a top-40 (in all likelihood) draft pick in 2 years and a savings of $2+ million in cuts.

I'm OK with this trade. I liked both guys, and feel bad for where they now need to play, but they likely weren't going to help us win this year, or probably ever.

BTW, the 2nd rounder is not Cleveland's. It's Minnesota's 2013 2nd rounder.

That changes things a little bit.

Trade was to create roster space for signings of cut veterans as I see it.  Fratello was trying to make it sound like these deals were about money.  He never did make it far in the playoffs with his teams, what a hoser.
