So this is just a fun trade idea that I think could benefit us. Not a high risk, not a high reward, just plaing around with the trade machine.

Houston trades Courtney Lee to Boston for Semih Erden and Avery Bradley.

Why for Houston: Houston is getting another C. Since Yao is out they currently have 2 C's. Brad Miller and Chuck Hayes. Brad Miller is currently out with a knee injury. Simply they need depth at that position. Semih is 24 and is still learning. He's good enough Avery Bradley can do something that the other SG's can't play D. Also, the rockets coach want to go to a 3 guard rotation of Lowry, Martin, and Brooks. Lee likely won;t be needed with those 3 taking up most of the minutes.

Why for Boston: A 25 year old SG who can hit 3's and decent defender. He can give Ray and Paul rest.

Why not for Houston: Giving up a rotation player for a C who rarely plays in Boston, and a D-Leaugue player with some potential.

Why not for Boston: We barely have frontcourt depth as it is.

No thanks.

Erden is a useful extra big man.

West will be back soon to take the bench SG minutes.

I'd consider trading Erden for a bigger 3.  However, Lee is only 6-5 and really doesn't meet that requirement.

Yeah, I have an idea to get a better SG than Lee AND keep Erden and Bradley.

No trade machine needed. Just patience.

Delonte will give this team a big boost (on both sides of the floor) IMO.

I'd do the deal in a heartbeat if they were interested.

A Delonte West + Courtney Lee backcourt in vastly superior to a Nate/Delonte combination. More size, more length, more defense, more consistent shooting and decision making offensively.

Lee's %'s look OK from 3, but do people really think he's a good 3 point shooter?  My feeling never has been that he is.  Even when he shot 40% in Orlando, I feel like that was 40% on wide open 3's.  Then in NJ last season he was only 33%.  Now 38% this season but I admittedly haven't seen him play much there.

Houston can get a player of Erden's level without giving up Courtney Lee. If for some reason they're willing to give up Courtney Lee to address this momentary problem, they can get a better player than Erden.

Anyway, they play a rotation of Scola/Hayes/Hill/Patterson. Erden would be out of the rotation as a 5th big. They can pick up someone from the D-League for that role.

Yup, and I do like Courtney Lee's offensive game, but I am quite intrigued by Bradley's defense.  That doesn't come along very often.

Exactly what kind of 3-pointers would you imagine him getting on this team?

The only problem I have with playing Delonte at the 2 is that that would mean Nate at the 1. That gives us a 5'9" PG a 6'3" SG, 6'6" Daniels at the SF, and an undersized Baby at the 4. We would be small across the board. I would rather see Delonte play the 1.

True, but I'd really only be willing to sacrifice our depth at the 4/5 spot if it meant that we also got a big 3, who could hypothetically play some 4 like Posey did for us in 2008.

I know that KG, BBD, Perk, Shaq, JO, and Erden seem like a lot of big men, but Perk is coming off knee surgery, Shaq is 38, and JO is, well, JO.

So we're a couple strokes of bad luck away from Erden being either the backup center or the only center on this team.

Now if we could get Shane Battier, I'd think about that.  He could be like Posey, and in a pinch, play some 4.

Lee doesn't do that for us.

i like the team as it stands now, but i still would prefer getting a 3 over an SG. having Nate, Delonte, Wafer or Daniels come off the bench to play the 2 is a lot of options. it's a pipe dream but i think having a guy like Ariza would rock. yes, even though he's a former Laker.

I'd rather keep Erden.

What is anyone's percentage on 3s that are contested?

Hopefully when you shoot a 3 you are open. Otherwise it is a bad shot. He is a pretty good shooter, from both midrange and from 3.

Lee takes almost 2 threes a game in 18 mpg and shoots 39%.

The problem I have with this trade is that I think Von Wafer, with his improved defense, migh be better than Courtney Lee.

So when Delonte comes back, we will have 3 guys who could mix and match for various dynamic backcourts. West, Wafer, and Nate. Lee doesnt add enough IMO to warrant getting rid of any frontcourt depth.

Shaq is going to need a break.

Do not give up the backup C that can cover some of those minutes.
