KG had a decent rebounding game, Perkins had a great rebounding game. However Semih/Davis and most of the rest of the team did poorly. Most of the damage was done in the first half. Also 3 offensive boards came on a single sequence twice.

Turnovers were the biggest issue last night in my mind.

Question is....How can he rebound?

Our system is already one thing. But we are also shooting 50% from the field. This means he does not have enough offensive rebounding opportunities as well.

People keep talking about how we are last in rebounding. But teams don't rebound that well against us either.

When you play the Celtics, don't expect to rebound much. You can only rebound missed shots and the Celtics haven't been missing much this year.

KG has been playing further away from the low post.  McHale pointed it out on NBAtv.  He has been making phenominal passes (assists up) and setting up plays.  He has great knowledge of the game and court vision...but because he is in the high post instead of the low post, his rebounds are down.  Now with Perk back, our rebounding should rebound! (pun intended, ha ha ha)

Yea thats a good point that gets overlooked. I remember seeing somewhere that of the top 10 offensive % teams, 7 or 8 of them were some of the worst rebounding teams.

I'm not worried about KGs rebounding yet but why are people talking about him playing away from the post and how we shoot %50 so he doesn't have as many offensive rebounding chances?

He has never been an offensive rebounder and I believe during his tenure as a Celtic has averaged about 1 offense rebound per a game.

KG has always been a monster on the defensive glass and I believe that is what people care about. And since we post one of the lowest FGA average in the league, there should be even more rebounds available for him.

Not worried... Yawn... Ooo excuse me. Anyway, I mean its January, we're 35 and 10, guy just came back from an injury and hes coming off a game where he was an assist and a rebound away from a triple double... Plus, he's averaging 9 rebounds a game, give the guy a break.

The Celtics are infact 1st in opponents' rebounding per game; they give up, on average, less rebounds than any other team in the NBA. That's amazing.

I also found out that they're 1st in opponents' defensive rebounding per game and 7th in opponents' offensive rebounding per game. So no, teams don't rebound that well against them at all! : )

Tai, those numbers are raw totals. They don't adjust for pace, or number of potential rebounds to be had. The Celtics play relatively slow so that skews things.

So...do you have stats that DO? I mean, I just found these advanced stats, but I'm not sure if these are what would be considered more appropriate:

http://espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/teamstats/_/sort/defReboundRate

These have the Celtics 13th in defensive rebounding rate, last in offensive rebounding rate, and 18th in overall rebounding rate.

Rebound Rate is the best measure, it accounts for Pace/Opportunities (Celtics shot such a high percentage they don't get as many chances to grab their own misses)

So the Celtics are average, hopefully as Perkins/Shaq gets back into normal rotation we'll improve to a top defensive rebouding team.
