I'm surely tied with a few others in the category of biggest Rondo supporter on the blog, but if they call and offer Griffin for Rondo, the answer has to be yes.  Some nights we'd suffer for it, but overall I think we'd come out ahead, especially down the road.  I think we're talking about a bigger Lebron James (fewer ball control skills but who cares, he doesn't need to be PG-like) with a better attitude, intangibles......

Just out of curiosity, would he come off the bench for huge minutes or start next to KG?

I also disagree that swapping Rondo for Griffin equal we start rebuilding tomorrow.  How would that sound to KG, Pierce, Ray and Shaq, not to mention Doc?  It would sound ridiculous.

If there's the slightest hesitation about knee health, you don't do it....otherwise you march on towards banner 18 with a different look.  Since when does adding an all-star to 4 future hall of famers who are all still starting equal rebuilding?

Griffin is looking like a potential KG/Duncan level player. Rondo is looking like a Jason Kidd.
I think of Blake Griffin more as a Karl Malone type.

I think he'll become a fine defender in time but I don't think he'll ever the type of impact KG or Duncan had on their team's defense.
Karl Malone or a taller Barkley? I think Blake Griffin is the reincarnation of Len Bias.

Have you seen Nate playing PG? Makes me miss House.

The problem with getting Griffin this year is that the shift in where our talent is means a net minus in the overall strength of the team. We lose an all star quality PG when our only other PG/SG contributors are Nate, West and Ray, while we have far more contributors up front, including an all star quality player already at Griffin's position.

We would really have to move KG also unless we go small a lot. There is no way that we should allow Griffin to average less than 35mpg

I agree we'd have to do something else afterwards at PG.  I disagree with moving KG, which would end the title hopes right then and there.  The Celtics and Doc and our vets are saavy enough to make it work.....

bynum actually played last year, he didn't play at all in 2008.  That was the biggest factor.
KG's decline compared to the title year was bigger than both of those.

Agreed.  Basically, Pierce/Allen/Rondo cancelled out Kobe and his crew.  So, it came down to KG versus Gasol.  In 2008, KG won the battle, but in 2010, KG was a shadow of his former self, and Gasol took it.
I really think it had more to do with Bynum taking pressure and heat off of Gasol, who was much more comfortable as a PF then a center.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Agreed, which became even more of an issue when Perkins went out in Game 7.. Bynum was an even bigger factor :(

Very interesting read - As someone who follows the Clippers, I definitely think that it is a no brainer to get Griffin, as long as you get a decent PG also, and as long as he is able to stay healthy, much like Dwight Howard and Lebron James have given their similar extreme athletic style.

The one thing I will say, though, is that he is on a short list of players who are untradeable, along with Lebron, Wade, Dwight Howard and Derrick Rose. Also, he needs to have a couple viable threats with him on a team. I've seen too many times where he was double or triple teamed, where the other Clippers players were not able to make a shot/play. But when Gordon is in, and the 3-point shooters are hitting their shot, he can't really be guarded 1 on 1.

So it really boils down to what we would do with KG?

If KG retires next year, would making this trade make more sense?

Chuckle. I missed this thread.

I'd get the paperwork done on this deal and to the league office in five minutes - before Don Sterling sobered up.

Not only would I make the trade but I would drop Rondo off at the airport and personally pick up Blake and drive him to the TD Garden. I'd also carry his bags if he asked me to.

The heck with that. First I'd offer him another bottle of scotch and then get the deal done (lol.)

If Rondo was a serious threat as a shooter and he shot 80% from the FT line, I might start considering keeping rondo in this trade...otherwise I would do this in a heartbeat
