I could be wrong, but I thought Joe Johnson specifically requested that Phoenix not match Atlanta's contract b/c of his desire to be a star.

I remember something along those lines too. I also remember the Sarver stuff.

I think more than wanting to "be" a star, Joe Johnson wanted to be treated like a star. He deserves to get paid more than a 3rd banana, but he didn't deserve the contract Atlanta gave him.

The Nets have 3 pieces considering keeping in Harris, Favors, and Lopez while leaning strongly towards Harris and Lopez.  Very interested in mixing things up though, so if anybody has interest in any of those players, please PM me.

If you're building for the future Favors is a better keeper than Harris. It all depends on whether or not you want to build for a more immediate team.

Yep, agreed.  Lopez + Favors is looking like a great option to build around, whereas Harris has more present day value.

I think it was Simmons who talked about Orlando trading the pick that would have been Chris Webber, and could have paired webber and shaq.

Obviously Lopez isnt Shaq, but it is always interesting when you have what could be dominant C and PF playing together

Taking offers on Brandon Roy. PM me.

I'd be interested to see what kinda offers you get here. I think if I'm a fringe contender I take a look.
If you want a former all-star with blown out knees just draft T-Mac.

I just have no faith he'll be able to ever be a high level player again.

I'd just keep Batum and Aldridge.

I don't think he'll play at a high level, but I do think he could really help out a team that's ready to compete. If I'm a team like Boston - in this excercise - I'd atleast consider giving up a first or second rounder.
*shrug* that's up to other GMs I guess. I don't think you can give up a high pick for a guy who just went under the knife though.

I almost think he makes more sense for a team trying to load up on youth, if it weren't for his salary. He'd have more time to potentially recover.

Not really a high pick though, if it's a second round in this draft that's an equivalent to a late 3rd early 4th in the summer draft.

Why in the world are you taking Baron Davis over Eric Gordon?

Easy - Eric Gordon is not a PG. Baron Davis, while a little older now - is one, and is still one of the better ones.

I simply did not see the opportunity to pick another quality PG later on in the 2nd round.

I have plans already for my 1st pick.

Also - Baron Davis is Playoff Tested. To me, he is a proven Floor General.

It is so easy to look at players' numbers in the NBA and believe they are more valuable than they are. Sometimes, the less gaudy numbers are better for the team.

Eric Gordon will make a fine SG for another team, but for me I needed Baron.

Eric Gordon is:

- 22 years old and making $10 million less than Davis;
- shooting .468 from the field, .359 from deep, and .818 from the stripe;
- getting to the line 7 times per game;
- avering 24 points per game on only 17 shots;
- a good defender, despite being a bit undersized;
- a great fit next to Blake Griffin

He's already a better player than Baron Davis by a fairly large margin, and that gap is only going to widen as EGor refines his game and Baron ages.

The difference between Baron Davis and Gordon, to me, is minimal. For the purposes of this draft, I wanted to place the Clips in the best position I thought possible to compete in the playoffs.

To do that, you need playoff vets, and Baron is one of them.

Also - you forgot to mention that Eric Gordon is not as good a passer as Baron.

He is a SG.

On a side note - I get the impression that some of us here are blaming Baron for the Clips woes over the years. I find most of what I have heard to be speculative, at best.

From what I have seen? The Clippers woes start at the top. Unfortunately, I get the impression that Baron is getting some undue blame.

I am a Celtics Fan foremost, since 1981, and to that end I pay attention to Boston more than any other team.

But the Baron Davis dislike - It is surprising to me.

The great thing about this draft is that it's done all for fun, to see how CelticsBlog GMs could build various franchises in their own images.  I've personally disagreed with some of the keeper choices, but I think it's great that not everybody is approaching this from the same angle.  If there were no surprises, this would be pretty boring, right?
