Not making excuses - the Pats lost a game they should have won, and the Jets' defense was solid - but watching the highlights, (or "low-lights", as it were), the Patriots dropped a ton of passes that should've been caught. Brady is clearly taking most of the blame, but Woodhead, Crumpler, Branch, even Welker, all dropped easily catchable passes that would have made a very big difference in that game.

And Belichick gets to coach them!  Im surprised no Jets players said anything about that.

So i know this is a bit early but looking to next year.

With our first pick Im hoping for the d-lineman Cameron Jordan out of  Cal.  One thing that the pats superbowl teams had was a d-line of first rounders that stopped the run.  Hopefully Jordan can come in and Warren can come back healthy and that will give us the powerhouse d-line again.  And then keep Gerard warren for Depth.

With the second first round pick I would like to get pouncey out of Florida.  He would be a good replace for Neal and hopefully we resign Mankins.

First pick of the second round I would like the G-C prospect ouf of Penn State.  Koppen isnt getting any younger and grabbing a replacement here is probably a good idea.  Another good option here is Costanzo out of BC to replace matt Light.

Last pick in the second round im hoping for Dowling out of Virginia.  He is an absolute shut down corner who has dropped because of injury.  Its a high risk high reward pick, but when you have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds you can take a chance.

Interestingly, it was Patrick Chung, and not the coaching staff, that called for that fake punt:

Link.

I'm surprised he has that much authority.  That ended up being a huge play, and I'm a little shocked that one player would be left with the decision making authority regarding taking such a monumental risk.

Maybe the story is written misleadingly, and Chung was instructed by the staff that if there was an overload, to call the fake.  That would make a lot more sense to me than solely giving him authority over an audible of such consequence.

whoever made the call it wreaked of desperation and set the tone for the rest of the game.

I just don't see the real advantage there.  You are down 7-3 with just over a minute left on your own 40.  If you convert there is still a decent chance you dont have time to put points on the board.  and if you don't convert we saw what can happen.

Yeah, the reward is potentially a FG to cut it to 7-6.  The risk is turning the ball over on downs, giving the Jets the chance to go into halftime up 14-3, with huge momentum.  It just wasn't a very smart call.

I contrast that with the decision to go for 2, where the risk / reward made more sense.  The reward was that you're a FG behind, the risk is that you're down 5, rather than 4.  In other words, the risk was pretty manageable there, but wasn't with the fake punt.

That fake punt was absurd. It wasn't one of those "If you make it you're a genius or really gutsy calls".

It was one of those "The whole world instantly knew and said how stupid it was" calls.

It was a whole different league from 4th and 2. 4th and 2 was Monday morning quarterbacking.

This was the second after it happened and even during it quarterbacking.

Belichek is slipping.  He has been for years.

He ain't the only one who did not sleep at all last night. Man, I am not surprised I did not wake up in jail this morning with all the F-Bombs I laid on the streets walking out of the sports bar last night.

That was an atrocious game yesterday. Simply atrocious. Three people have asked about it already and I have said Google Patriots, Google Belichick, Google Brady. Google, Google, Google.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

The 4th and 2 was a case of "we make it we win the game".  This just came across as desperate.  The Jets were supposed to be the desperate team.  The Pats had them on the ropes twice, early, and the Jets responded.  The Pats cut it to 3 late in the 3rd and the Jets drove it right down the field and went back up 10.  The Jets were mentally and physically tougher yesterday.

bummer
Yup

Frequently the long snaper and the up man can call for the fake in such situtations. Or in the snapers case just have the authority to quick snap if they count 12 on the field. Didn't the Jets punter pull something like this?
