Ball handling.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Explosive scoring / shooting

When?

The playoffs last year?

I swear the reactionary nature of people on this board is craziness.  Von Wafer from a cut to a savior in a game.  And Nate so quickly in the dog house.

Give him a break and let's see if he plays out of the slump.  He has provided explosive scoring in the past, if he hadn't he simply wouldn't be in the league because that is just about all he does provide.

I guess less than a year ago is so long people forget.

Nate has struggled recently and he struggled right at the start of the season ... but in between, Nate was playing good basketball ... and that period (early Nov to mid/late Dec) is being completely forgotten.

Just need to be patient and let him get back to that.

Nate is too inconsistent.

Two missed fts arguably as much as anything, contributed to the 2-pt Hornets loss

Ball handling, energy, 3 point shooting, scoring in bunches, spark off the bench we wouldn't have without him, an entertaining player that the fans can get behind. Nate can pump the crowd up at home and really make them a 6th man factor. Plus he is good for an explosive defensive play once and a great while.

Nate is a great bench player.  He brings some instant offense.  As a starting point guard, he is actual TRASH!!  So glad Rondo is back.  Our offense was horrible with Nate at the helm.

Either absolutely nothing or quite a bit. Such is Nate.

LOL.  yup.

Energy, athleticism, toughness, durability, fearlessness and great enthusiasm. Being one of the starting defensive backs every game as a freshman for a PAC-10 team is pretty impressive for a seriously undersized athlete.

While we all agree that he is not starting point guard material, to have the luxury of having a player of that caliber as a 9th, 10th or 11th man says a lot about the depth of our team.

BBD is not a great starter and is much better as a 6th man. That does not diminish his value to the team. The same with Nate. While we don't want him as our starting point guard, as a talented situational player, we're lucky to have him.

He is very competitive, and doesn't mind having the ball in his hands at crunch time and usually performs well then. Those missed free throws alluded to by an earlier, astute poster is uncharacteristic of him.

Look at last night. At the end of the game with 9.5 on the clock and up only one, he wants the inbound pass from Rondo. We would rather have the ball in Nate's hands in that situation than RR, because more often than not, like BBD, he hits free throws at crunch time.

Nate's athleticism allowed him to not only get free in the  back-court to take the inbound pass, but also allowed him to kill a precious 5 seconds off the clock by running around elusively till he was fouled. He then buries those free throws.

I'd go into war with Nate on my side anytime, and, especially given the fragility of our team we need to keep his confidence up. DWest down till perhaps the All-Star break, Marquis health always a concern, RR plantar fascitis, tweaked ankles, strained hammy. Let's hope none of those health issues become exacerbated, but if they do, I'd like Nate on my team.

Yes he can provide scoring, but this team is not built on scoring, it is built on ball movement and sharing. Nate simply does not have the inbred instincts or Bball IQ needed. Ray goes hot and cold; but he has so many ways he can contribute. Wafer was also faulted as being hot and cold as a shooter. If he can continue to develop other parts of his game he can be more valuable to this team. The question is who works best with Marquis on the floor or with Delonte on the floor? Play Wafer w/ Rondo and see what happens.

Yes I am glad Nate is on the Team however with our unprecedented depth we have to look at all the options.

We lost game 7 last season because we couldn't score for anything. Our offense can get stagnant at any point.

Nate is capable to sparking the offense, taking pressure off the other subs.

Right now he isn't playing well. But he is capable of running off 8-points all by himself in a flash.

Didn't he put up 40-points just last season? Not too many players are capable of scoring 40 in a game. He can score when given the chance (and he is feeling it).

With so much depth at the off guard position, what value does Nate have if he is not playing the point. With Von coming on, Delonte coming back and Doc's comments about Marquis playing more at the point is hard to see why we should play him - especially with our rebounding problems.

We also need to be concerned about defending the 3. Nate is tenacious, but Delonte is much better defending the 3 and can also rebound. Would rather see Marquis and Wafer out there or Delonte and Marquis as a two PG tandem. You don't loose shooting (spacing the floor) with either Delonte or Von and you gain a lot more in other ways.
Why would either Nate or Delonte guard the 3?

Quis would guard the 3, West the 2, Nate the 1. Quis is always the guy who gets Lebron this year when Pierce is sitting. West is already small for guarding the 2.

The problem wasn't the guards. It was the lack of a post presence. We got the lead with some excellent post play from Sheed, but he was in too much pain at the end to post anyone.

Add to that Sheed's inability to play good D at the end due to his back pain.

With no post threat, we became easier to defend.

I can't figure out what you meant by your comment in the context of the discussion since Nate was already on the team for game 7. He obviously wasn't the missing piece. I wouldn't blame him either since we were fine when Sheed had gas.
