Tanguay said it is a compound fracture and he could quite possibly be gone for the year.  Let's hope Tanguay is wrong as usual.
Ugh that'd really hurt the C's.

Nice this is the perfect opportunity to cut Delonte.

He could conceivably play with a wrap on his non-shooting hand. As long as ligaments/tendons arent't involved, it won't take 5+ months for bone to heal.

Leave the diagnosis/timetable to medical professionals, not Gary Tanguay.

You have to be kidding with this post. Totally uncalled for.

Doc also said it is a compound fracture and that it will be a "long time" before Delonte returns. So, if he is gone for most of the season, do the Celts have to make a move, and if so, what can that move be?

I'm not sure what wings and guards are out there. Not a lot that I'd be happy with.

Not knowing the nature of the break (other than it was a compound fracture), it could be anywhere between 6-16 weeks.  If it's an ulnar or radius break, that's usually between 6-8 weeks.  If it's a carpal break, that's between 10-16 weeks.

The previous break of the same wrist may lead the docs to insert a titanium rod or metal plate, and depending on what they use and the atrophy involved, those measures can either speed up or slow down the healing process.

FWIW, Gary Washburn tweeted that the Cs expect Delonte to miss 3 months.  From what they said on CSNNE, they have an MRI schedule for Friday morning, so it's all speculation until then.

Whatever the case, Delonte is being severely tested and we can only hope he responds positively to this adversity.  Unlike the suspension, he won't have the solace of the court to help him make the right decisions on a day-by-day basis.
Folly. Persist.

I will say this....I broke my wrist I'm a similar fashion three yrs ago a hard fall where you instinctively use your hands to break the fall. When you do this you typically break the scaphoid or navicular bone. It is a small peanut shaped bone on the thumb side of your wrist. It is the easiest and most frequent break. Unfortunately it is also one of the longest most daunting and hard recoveries with lingering effects. To fix this 90% require surgery to insert a screw as I had done, this is followed by 5 mo. In a cast and rehab shortly after. 75% of the people who break this need surgery to reset the screw within three to four years. Today I'm finding at 20 going on 21 I already have issues in cold weather and severely reduced range of motion. if delonte did break the scaphoid/nav he is in serious trouble, all iknow is his fall has givn me flashbacks to my injury and similar reaction and has made me sick to my stomach to the point of no sleep already just remembering how painful a process it all was. I really hope for his sake it isn't it...

What do you think the hit rate is on trade rumors?  I would suspect not much higher than .01% over the life of this blog.  Add in the uncertainty of the older bigs staying healthy and voila 0.0% for a trade.

Regarding West we'll be lucky like Shaq said to get him back around the all star break.

Hopefully Rondo is back soon to boost Ray, Paul and KGs output.

This is almost exactly my story with the exception that while I was 18 years old at the time, I still had significant growth ahead of me and was able to heal a tad faster. With that said, even with the cast off, screw removed and going through the rehab process it was months before I really felt comfortable with the wrist to resume athletics outside of shooting around unguarded in the driveway. These injuries tend to be more severe for full grown adults and if West's wrist was is in fact that type of break, I share the same pessimism about a speedy recovery.

Hmm... a compound fracture would involve the broken bone sticking through the skin.  Didn't see anything that gruesome on the replays.  Maybe he just meant it was dislocated.  Well I'm I'm hoping for the best.

yup. Tanguay gets all of his inside info from "his gut". If his inside scoop was worth anything, we'd have Grant Hill as out backup 3 right now...

Being that it's his non shooting hand and he's an actual NBA caliber athlete.. I would guess not playing the rest of year even if it was 'gut' feeling is tad off.
