Someone should check out the schedule they've played before getting too excited.

The Lakers have had a lot of home games, but they've played some decent teams, unlike the Hawks.

Since this is about 3-pt shooting, it's more relevant to look at the opponents' 3-pt shooting of the 7 teams the Lakers have beaten than merely their W-L records.

And it is surprising.

Here's the opponents' 3-pt FG% for the Lakers opponents with the game vs the Lakers subtracted:
Rockets .372
Suns .360
Warriors .349
Grizzlies .374
Kings .381
Raptors .368
Blazers .264(!)
Total .3495

The Lakers have shot .4496 - more than 10% better...

Yes, it seems as if LA did steamroll Portland tonight.

Well, worse case scenario is that come January 30 2011, LA's Streak is Halted....
Ha ha.

It WOULD be scary if the Lakers didn't coast to a few losses (as they always do) before then - but ESPN is cranking up the hype machine with this crap about the Lakers' potential for winning 72 games this morning - at least Adande doesn't see the Lakers winning 72 "just yet":

http://espn.go.com/nba/dailydime/_/page/dime-101107/daily-dime

Yeah - Adande is one of those Analysts that always seems to favor the Lakers. He'd probably pick them to beat the 80's Celtics, I bet.

It doesn't help that Boozer and Amare bolted to the East, Oden and Przbylla's not healthy, and Yao is playing limited minutes.

Right now, I see maybe San Antonio or Dallas slowing them down.

I wouldn't even mind if LA did in fact roll to an undefeated season, up until Jan 30, 2011. Boston's known for crashing team's winning streaks:

Loved that exclamation point at 1:17. KG looks awfully close to that right now.

It will be interesting to see how LA fits Bynum back in, and O'dom goes back to the bench sulking. He gives LA a different dynamic.

There's such a thing as context. When I'm following a post of yours about how many wins the Lakers will have I'd say that W-L records are somewhat relevant, as is 5 home games vs 2 road games.

But as for the 3 point shooting, you should have noticed, while totaling up the stats, that more than half the Lakers games have been against teams in the bottom 9 in the league in 3FG% allowed. The Lakers are hot but they'll cool down.

In part they're ranking low because they've played the Lakers. We're still at a small enough sample size that one hot team can mess with your overall rankings.

I do agree that the Lakers won't keep this up.

How is this post "about how many wins the Lakers will have"?

I have no doubt the Lakers' numbers will come down. But it is a significant difference compared with their previous teams.

Another depressing (if ultimately irrelevant) stat:

Every time a Phil Jackson-coached team has started the season 7-0, they won the title.

Interesting Post, nba is the worst. Where did you see that?

No one picked Boston to beat CLE or ORL in the playoffs last year, either.

Looked it up (1997, 2002, 2009).

Skip Bayless did...

You'd have to look at every team the Lakers opponents have played and how well *those* teams did against the teams they played to have an accurate opinion. It's way too small a sample size, especially considering that nobody is claiming the Lakers will keep this up.

Whether you're thinking "post" or "thread", though, you certainly beat me to posting about non-relevant topics.

Well, you didn't quote the post you were referring to, and your post was on a different page.

Regardless, I think the Lakers improvement from the perimeter will end up to be quite revelant to their winning the title, which makes this "thread's" topic relevant indeed!

Assuming they win the title, which I don't.
