That's an unfair statement about me. I didn't saying disagreeing was offensive. I said calling Glen fat boy is very offensive, especially when he's helping your team and the fact that he is not fat; at least not any fatter than Perk or Shaq.
So calling a player out of shape, or fat is offensive to you? I still think thats a pretty tough standard to live by when you're talking about athletes, especially one with a history of weight problems.

And also, we've seen a great deal 'this' year. And it has only been 2 games of regular season. How can a player prove himself for this season when the season just started?
I thought in your opinion he was amazing this year so far?

My point is that its fair to talk about his ceiling because Glen is right around the age when a player physically peaks and he's also getting big minutes. When he's not playing beyond what he's done in the past despite increased opportunity its fair to say what "we see is what we get".

You don't have to agree with those who hold that opinion, but they're not being unreasonable as you've previously said.

I think Big Baby can take it.  He is fat, he knows it, he jokes about it.  There is no need to take it personally.

We are all fans here.  We love this team, and we love the players on it.  I think we can joke around together about them.

Davis and Shaq are fat (Perk is pretty cut, not sure where that came from), Nate is short, Delonte is ugly, Rondo has freakishly large hands.

They are also terrific athletes.

Lets all relax a bit, stop taking things so personally, and just respect each other and their opinions.

Agreed, that statement is offensive to those of us who appreciate what Glen's doing for this team.
So disagreeing with you is offensive? Not exactly having an open mind for a debate.

Glen is 24 yrs. old, beginning his 3rd year, I believe. He had 3 years of college before he came to us. So I don't understand your logic, Fafnir.
My logic is simple, Glen Davis should hitting his prime in the next few years. He's currently getting 30 minutes a game. If he's ever going to develop like you think he will, he should show signs this year. We should be seeing his amazing potential right now.

Instead we're seeing below average PF play.
1. A player doesn't emerge as you are looking for in a two game span, especially to start the season. He's gotten 30 minutes a game through two games. I think you have to cut him some slack and wait longer into the season to truly get a gauge as to the quality of pf play, regardless of how you feel about his play to start the year.

2. I think he has been very good defensively. Let's say you took the charges he took per game as a steal or a block (one in which the C's automatically got the ball). Those make his defensive numbers look a lot better. I think he did a good job on Bosh in the first game and showed on the pick and rolls well in the second game.

3. It seems like you concede he is getting better, but your argument is that he isn't getting better at the rate that will eventually make him a good starter on a championship contender (because those are the type of minutes he's playing). I have two answers to this: A. He will continue to improve, this is the first time he's seen this many minutes in the NBA. B. I believe this to be a temporary fix because JO will cut into his minutes once he becomes better acclimated.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz

I'm convinced Big Baby stole Fafnir's girl or bullied him as child.

Davis is a role player at best.   Can't do anything particularly great.  Rebounding is not a skill players eventually learn.  He is what he is... unathletic, slowish, short fat boy roleplayer who will hit a few jumpers and make a few uncontested layups.

He's a little better at scoring in traffic than you give him credit for, at least so far this year. And, yes, it's only 2 games, but he seems to be smarter about using his body to make space when he's putting the ball up, and a little bit smarter about when not to try a shot.

Why because I don't think he'll become an all-star?

He's quite a bit fatter than Perk IMO.

The whole premise of this thread is absurd.

Glen Davis isn't that good.  He never will be that good.  Some of you homers act like averaging a "blistering" (i can't believe someone actually called his performance thus far "blistering"), 13.5 points and 5 rebounds over a 2 game span is the sign of greatness.  You have to be kidding me.  "Blistering" is Luis Scola averaging 27 points and 16 rebounds over his first two games or Roy Hibbert dropping 28 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks in his first game.

Anyone who watched Blake Griffin's debut yesterday saw an explosive big man who can outrun everyone on his team, jump 5 feet above the rim, finish with authority, dribble the ball coast-to-coast in traffic, pull down 10 offensive rebounds in his very first game, hit jump shots, pass the ball exceptionally well and own people on the block with footwork, speed and athleticism.    It was his first game ever.   No amount of magical ladder would ever allow Glen Davis to reach a ceiling comparable to Blake Griffin's professional debut.   He doesn't have the body, skills or talent for it.   What you have is a role playing big man who struggles to finish, can't pull down rebounds all that well, doesn't play defense all that well, is mediocre as a jump shooter and converts some open looks under the basket partially because he's playing with one of the 10 best point guards in the world.

He'll get a little better.  He'll never be great.  And yes... he's fat

Let´s not forget that BBD is a completely different man and player from what he was in college. I think he has another step in him once he gets fully acclimated to the capabilities of his new body frame.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

To be fair, I called his scoring "blistering" and it was meant in sarcasm. As in, "even at his "blistering" scoring clip thus far, he would still have to significantly improve his scoring to be all-star level."

Well, I really would like you to be right, and Glen Davis to become an all star starter for the Champion Boston Celtics.  All I am saying is that in the recent past vertically challenged power forwards have not made the transition to championship form.    I am not questioning thier passion, effort or talent.  I would love Davis to be the one who breaks through.  I would especially like it because it would further solidify Danny as a premier picker of talent, and be one more reason to "raise him to the rafters."  I am not as sure as you seem to be that it will happen, though.

Big Baby is a nice story. He came into the league with very underdeveloped offense. Now, he can post up and score in several different ways. His jumper also makes him a threat. I just love how the C's can insert him into the fourth quarter and expect him to at least get to the line with the ball in his hands. His defense is also worth noting.

BBD and Perk are two completely different players in body frame and in mentality.

you cant expect to really make an accurate comparison between them. but thats what makes the dynamic of our team that much better going forward this season.

when perk returns, we'll have so many different looks to throw at opponents. perk provides a stopper when we need it, while BBD can provide that spark off the bench when we need it. its as simple as that. doc knows that. last year at the end of games, he finished with the one he thought was a better fit against each opponent. it will be the same this year.

in terms of comparing BBD to blake griffin, theres a reason why blake was a #1 pick, while bbd was 35th or so. griffin will be an all star probably next year and get the max contracts. BBD will do well as a role player and at the most get the MLE in the offseason from another team. i doubt ainge would give that to BBD.

I'm not saying that Glen Davis is playing at an all-star level, but his production so far this season has hardly been below average.

A Thread I can roll with.

TP to Bankshot.

My only gripe with him over the years has been his consistency, and he's showing signs of bringing it nearly every night, so that's a good thing.
