Very good question.  If you go back to the original article it just says "sources say" at the beginning which means it isn't a confirmed thing, perhaps just something discussed among Riley's close circle.  BTW, that whole article was really interesting.  Really cool to have an understanding of how Doc and Danny work together.

I'm not really liking how Realgm keeps cutting these longer stories down and excluding stuff to make it a more dramatic story.

I was just thinking about this. How funny would it be if Phil Jackson was coaching this Heat team in couple years. I know it's no realistic but to have coached 3 different dynasties with 3 different teams seems like something he'd enjoy.

Anyone else find it a little curious that this comes out a day after Doc was talking about being a long term coach for the C's?

Pat Riley probably put this rumor out there himself.  Just to plant a little seed in Doc's mind.

Well he is the master of motivation. If this team struggles with cohesiveness and fails to wina title, I could see him coaching that team. Doc is the other obvious candidate since he has experience with another Big 3. Doc isnt going anywhere though!

Doc Rivers would be an excellent fit if Spoelstra doesn't work with the new Heat.

I don't think it'll happen though, not unless Doc takes a year off.

I don't usually Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. about things like this, but this strikes me as the kind of thing that the League should be looking into.  Doc Rivers may or may not decide to sign an extension to be coach after this season.  IF the Heat are deliberately putting out rumors to influence his decision as to whether to sign an extension or not...  well, that's textbook "tampering."

Besides the tampering aspect, why is he making backup plans about a coach already? Just like when Joe Torre talked about possibly coaching the Mets, everyone jumped on him because Jerry Manuel was still the manager, and he was talking about another man's job. It's pretty unfair to Spoelstra for his boss to be talking about who he would like to replace him should he choose to do so.

Riley must really be a Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.. I don't even know why he is getting credit for the Heat's offseason. What did he promise LeBron to overpay for Mike Miller and fill the roster with stiffs? He had very little to do with this, it was obviously a decision made by all three long before they talked to anyone within the organization.

I agree that Doc would be great for them.  Hopefully he stays with the Celts at least another year afer this one.

Honestly?

Doc doesn't strike me as the kind of coach who would latch on to Miami because it was loaded to the gills with talent.  He doesn't seem like the kind of coach who's looking for the easy way out.  He's no Phil Jackson, you know?  ;)
