If the celtics clinch a postseason birth or appear to be a lock to clinch one and ask Rasheed to come out of retirement to play for them (say if JO, Shaq, KG, or BBD get injured), do you think he will say yes or no?

I don't know whether or not he would come and actively pursue rejoining the team himself, but if the celtics came to him and asked him to rejoin around the February trade deadline, I think he would.  I'm interested to hear your takes on this.

Rasheed is done.

May you be correct!

(I'm not convinced, however)

It does look like they've left the door open for him. I got the impression he left because he was tired of the politics not basketball per se so he could be convinced to give the part-time work play a try.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

The only way I see Sheed coming back is if God forbid one of our Bigs gets injured.

As we stand right now, we are stacked.

If the celtics are strong by the playoffs and people are picking us to win, then Im sure Sheed comes back.

If Sheed does in fact come back, who's spot does he take? If he comes back, we are looking at Semih, Sheed, Shaq, Glen, J.O, KG, Perk (eventually).

What kind of shape are you expecting him to be in by then?

Exactly.  He stayed out of shape for most of last season.  He's not going to be able to whip himself into shape if he's called upon.  Plus unless there is an injury, he is downgrade from all of our bigs with the possible exception of Erden.  No thanks to Rasheed.  Last year was torture enough.

Rasheed was a better defensive player than KG last  year. Low post offense, and defense was verrrry nice from Sheed.

If anything else - if Sheed does come back, and gives us a repeat performance of the post-season, then I'm onboard.

I'll never forget that performance in game 7, against Gasol. Man just took his time, on the blocks, nonetheless..turned and faced him up, then buried those J's in his face.

Grabbed us 8 boards..played solid D....he went out a winner in my book.

But I'm ultimately going with Nick here - I think he's done.

His defense was good only after the first round of the playoffs.  It was horrible and lazy all year, other than stealing entry passes.  Our playoff hero Rasheed averaged 6pts, 3 rebounds, and shot 41% from the field in this years playoffs.  Not so great.

I was just about to say that when I read the topic. I think last year I made a post about how Michael Jordan could just return right before the trade/free agent deadline and play for the Boston Celtics, however in both cases either Rasheed (if he chooses to come out of retirement) or Jordan would have to have a solid starter ahead of them to detract from the fact that they couldn't log major minutes in the regular season do to their age.
