Sorry Jeff in all honesty I respectfully disagree just like Po.  Ron Artest is not right... and never has been!  Doc is keeply right on here though, just like he just about always is (I know I sound like a huge homer, but I am... Even though I honestly believe Doc is the best coach in the league).  Doc has every right to say that this Celtics starting five when healthy because it's the truth.  It really is a catastrophe that the Lakers are champions right now because of Kendrick's injury and then had to be gifted 22 free-throws in the fourth quarter.

nah, Artest is right. In the same way that just because Phil Jackson has yet to lose when he's up 1-0 doesn't mean that the statistic will hold next year.

i hope our starting 5 will never be beat in a series, but i'm not a fan of Doc mentioning this "statistic" a lot. Seems petty. Let the media/fans do the talking and the let the coaches/teams do the winning.

Well IMO it is completely different from the Phil Jackson statistic.  This is about how we haven't lost when our starting five is in tact.  There is a difference.

I'm not so sure that this is petty, as you state. The thought just crossed my mind:

Wouldn't Bill Russell, Larry Bird, Cousy, Tommy, Chief, McHale, etc - have the same mindset as Doc? They respected their opponents.

But if you look back at the Magic-Bird rivalries, I read somewhere (can't remember exactly where-someone feel free to chime in) - that Bird believed that his main goal in life was to "bring Magic as much pain as possible", or something to that extent.

My point? I wonder if the "Celtics of Old" would give LA much (if any) credit for anything they did. That was part of the Rivalry - not this "Lebron join up with his enemies" stuff we see nowadays.

To look at that quote from Doc's radio interview, he did in fact give LA credit for the win. That was the first words out of his mouth. And then came the "Controversial" comments - the ones that have fueled the flames with LA fans.

But we have a "team" here. The Celtics arent just a starting 5...Its a whole team. And you have a whole team that needs to come together when injuries and such like this happens. I get the point Doc is making, but if he keeps repeating it, it comes across as a big time excuse.

Ron Artest is wrong, and Doc is right.

The fakers have not lost with a healthy Bynum... and they have not won with a healthy Bynum, because Andrew is always injured... it's sad for the kid, but that's the truth

The fakers have 11 banners, unless they change their name to Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers, even then, they'd have just 15, because one of the Mikan's titles was before the NBA existed.

Kobe injured Perk, Howard injured Davis, Sheed got injured playing against the tragic, and the same for Marquis. Ron Artest aka "not the Truth" injured Ray Allen. If the C's injured so many players in the same playoff run, they'd be suspended by Herr Stern... and I'd better not talk about referees.


The fakers can put an asterisk, or two, even three, on that last title, just like when they stole Sacramento.

If Ron wants a reality check, he'd better begin checking how he won his ring. Until then, Doc can keep saying this starting 5 is unbeaten in a playoff series, he always gave credit to the fakers, but there's a limit to everything.

Ron Artest has a point, but it is irrelevant. Doc started saying it to inspire the team, not to discount their opponents.

The lakers should know that David Stern not themselves won the title with his dirty second half refs.   For them to talk smack is atypical of the California Syndrome.   You know were Californians delusionally think they are best at everything and other Americans actually care about anything they say when in fact we think they are a joke.

i think both sides are right

yes the whole "if healthy we will win" thing is old...
Lakers didn't win 2008 and they complained a little
so its normal that we are complaining now

BUT, the only reason why I'm more on Doc's side is because EVERYONE knows that the Lakers would not have won if Perkins was not hurt in game 6...

no one denies the fact, because if Perk was healthy for game 7, those 20 offensive board would not have happened, even Lakers fan knows that for a fact but since they win they can talk all they want

I don't think it's petty, I think it's a motivation tool.  Basically, Doc is saying "If we work hard, the only thing that can beat us is bad luck".  I think that's a more effective coaching strategy than telling your team "The better team won."
