Sounds like a completely substanceless rumor... but maybe someone knows something behind the scenes.

Try not to put too much stock into Twitter reporting.  This is that kind of case where you realize this. (although if he comes back we'll probably say the opposite ;D )

The Sox did claim Damon, but Damon states that he's not inclined to come back to the Sox.

This move was just to prevent him from going to Tampa Bay.  Personally, when Manny is put on waivers, I'd love to pick him up.
do it

When JD Drew is your most reliable outfielder...I would take ANY veteran as a stopgap.

Personally I think if the Sox offer Damon a contract for next year for something close to what he's making right now, he'll be back in Boston.

I'd do it.  They made a mistake letting him go.

It's all in Johnny's hands.  He seems to have totally surprised by it.  The thought had never crossed his mind about coming back to Beantown.  If the Sox really want the guy the old guard `04 Sox players will have to do some recruiting.

My favorite player.  I would love him back.  He was lazy at times, okay, but a great hitter and was entertaining to watch.  The Sox this year have been so boring.  Manny and Johnny back would be a big improvement talent wise and in making this team more watchable.

One thing team management is probably concerned about is sinking TV ratings.  This is the first year in the last six seasons that the Red Sox don't lead MLB in local television ratings.  They dropped from 1st to 5th, I believe.  One reason cited by many fans is that, as you said, the team is boring and lacks stars.
