Melo don't want Boston.

And Boston don't want Melo.

Something like this shouldn't even be considered.

every trade which can potentially either help the team toward a title now, or give the team long term stability and contendership should be considered; that's Danny's job.

And Danny does look at every trade available, even among key players.

Pierce provides leadership and veteran, championship experience so it's tough to say, but I think with Melo we improve short term and if he resigns certainly long term.  I'll say this: Melo doesn't get shut down by Ron Artest in Game 7.  He can play Celtics D, is a better rebounder, and better offensive player.  It would be an upgrade, unless he doesn't have those same intangibles.  He can't replicate some (the NBA championship experience and history with the team), but I think he is a great competitor and would not wilt under pressure.

He was outstanding going head to head with Kobe in the Western Conference Finals two seasons ago, he outplayed him.  He has it in him.

I tried this trade on trade checker:

BOS: our immediate future and potential long term success

for

DEN: A no-snitching video and a player who doesn't fit the Celtic mold being forcibly brought in to underperform for a few years and leave.

It doesn't work.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

You said almost verbatim what I was going to say.

The Snitchster, the messiah, and Nash to name a few are players I'd much rather beat than root for.

At this point i think Pierce is untradeable, simply because of the fan outlash it would get.

What's not to like about Nash other than his lack of defense? I would love to root for that guy.

It's been spelled out in a number of interviews that Wyc will never trade Pierce, he has always wanted him to retire in green and get his number on the rafters. Danny on the other hand could trade anyone, but as long as Wyc is owner, Pierce is a celtic.

Well, aside from the fact that they can't trade him until December anyway, they're not going to trade him right after signing an extension.

Three years from now if the team is clearly not contending, I could see Pierce being traded.  However, it isn't happening now.

Plus, I don't know if Denver would even want to do this.  If Carmelo is going to leave, they may just be better off letting him go.  If Carmelo in his prime can't make the Nuggets a legit contender, Pierce in his decline isn't going to either.  And three #1s are worthless with Rondo and Carmelo on the same team.  Denver would just be better off clearing cap space with Carmelo walking.

Wait, you're saying we need to add an extra 1st if we trade Pierce instead of Ray?

We could trade Paul to the Lakers and he could beat us in the Finals and No. 34 would still be up there.

PP is going nowhere, and BBD seems really underrated by Celtics fans.  He wasn't a high pick at all, he plays well above average defense in 1 on 1 situations and helping in the lane (leading the league in charges taken), he can hit outside jumpers, and catches and finishes well inside.  I'm not sure why people give him such a hard time.  I know he takes some questionnable shots, and looks for his shot first a lot, but you need someone on the bench to do that and facilitate a little offense.  He also creates a lot of room in the rebounding game and has proven he can finish out games and hit clutch shots.  I'm missing the point where he had to be moved.  Keep this guy, especially since he doesn't cost much (now).

TP Bankshot.
Carmelo will never be as mentally tough as Pierce. You cant win a championship with Melo as your second best player. He is soft.
