Likely a pipe dream but why not:  Walter Hermann is trying to return to the NBA according to a spanish article on hoopshype I can't read.

He plays both forward spots has enough handle for a 2 guard, shoots the 3 well, and works on the defensive end.  He has all the foreign shooter charm of Rudy besides being over 30 like most of the pertinent pieces on our roster, and unlike Rudy has a track record as  a viable NBA role player and an even more impressive international resume including a gold medal.  I think he'll compete with Marquis for minutes and is a legit 6'9.  I may be in the minority but I think the C's should've gotten him 2 years ago (when Detroit resigned him the last time) and we might not still today be looking for a steady backup for Pierce.

. . . and unlike Rudy has a track record as  a viable NBA role player . . .

Why is Herrmann's track record "viable", but Rudy's isn't?

His career track record:

2007:  9.2 ppg in 19.5 minutes per game; 48 games played

2008:  3.4 ppg in 8.3 minutes per game; 45 games played

2009:  3.8 ppg in 10.7 minutes per game; 59 games played

Compared to Rudy:

2009:  10.4 ppg in 25.6 minutes per game; 78 games played

2010: 8.1 ppg in 23.2 minutes per game; 62 games played

Herrmann is more of an undersized perimeter orientated power forward than a wing player.

"Perimeter oriented Power Forward" Isn't that kinda like what a Small Forward is?

Nope -- big difference in being guarded by players like Troy Murphy and players like Trevor Ariza

Ok I'll give you that how bout AS viable a record as an NBA role player as Rudy.  Still not a bad option without all of Portland's trade hoops.

Walter Hermann sucks.  There's a reason he isn't in the league anymore.

If this is true, then he sounds more like a role that Harangody could fill.

Guess who'd already signed to the team, even if he may or may not pan out for the Celtics?
