Houston selects Derrick Rose.

And just like that - I'm back off the Houston bandwagon. But I expect this to be a widely approved pick. And regardless, it was great value for the player the Rockets wanted.

Some love him, some hate him.

I like him and Granger as my building blocks going forward. Terrifically athletic and multitalented players at their respective positions.

One of the early favorites for team of the future, no doubt about that.

Rose was pretty great in the 09 playoffs but I was really underwhelmed by him vs France yesterday. Just one game though. We'll see what he can do this season with an improved team.

I'm in your boat.

Great value to move up.

Not the player I would have taken.
Ditto

A lot of pressure on Houston's next two picks to turn that into a legitimate contender. No second round pick so they'll have to do a lot of work with their mid third round pick + oh, no fourth round pick either ... mid-fifth round pick.

That is going to be tough. Doable though.

Wow, well played by Houston. Early front runner?

And poor value for Miami in my - often wrong-headed - opinion.

i dropped 6 spots now but picked up jumped up 30 spots later on...there's still a ton of value to be had in the first round so i'm quite alright with it

It's certainly still too early to say. But in one man's opinion the jump up from the 7th to the 6th - to greatly improve you second option off the bench - doesn't warrant limiting your options when drafting your team's cornerstone.

Here's how the trade would've worked out in 2009.

Al Jefferson and Darko Milicic for
Rashard Lewis and Anthony Morrow

Darko, disappointing expectations since 2003... He's single-handily keeping this trade almost even.

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.
Only 2 picks until GC steals the guy I have my eye on. I'm open for trades of my 1(21) but will likely be away from the site until 3pm eastern(-ish), so I'm not ignoring you or potentially trying to tie the draft up, just unavailable. Let me know if you want to move up, or maybe just want someone to talk to in the lonely moments between picks. I'm looking at you, IP.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

Oh, I don't hate him. And I particularly love his mid-range game (one that's well complimented by Granger's long range shooting). It's still a great pick.

bottom line is i had my eye on gasol and when he was taken i was looking to pick up some value.  Derrick Rose was not a target for me at 17; i have 3 guys whom i'm targeting and 3 who i like so i feel like im in the same position as i was at 17 except for i added another asset.

i probably could've held out for a bit better of a deal but i didnt want to hold Lucky hostage; i'm satisfied the way things worked

Man, this really is a kinder, gentler draft this year.

Smart? With Picks? This is a new concept to me.
