The next time Dwight Howard elbows a Celtic, I say we send Ray Allen in there to give him the Varejao treatment with an elbow of his own.

Hopefully, Ray still has it in him to get all ball on that one.

Mwahahahahaaha funniest thing i read today ..
"7ft PG. Rondo leaves and GUESS WHAT? We got a BIGGER point guard!"-Tommy on Olynyk

If I were Dwight Howard and I saw Harangody trying to match up against me I'd feel like throwing a party...

Hahaha... Awesome.

Yeah, I'm not thinking that Luke would scare anyone, nor would I think Luke would be playing if we were playing the Magic.

Still, he'll have his hands full in the playoffs with Perk, Shaq, BBD, and Jermaine.

In all fairness, I'd say the same thing about BBD if Dwight had any sort of post moves whatsoever, but since Dwight can't shoot over anybody (on account of the fact 100% of his offensive game is dunking) then I do suppose BBD puts up a pretty imposing wall of fat between Howard and the rim.

/let's just hope Perk is 100% by the time playoffs roll around

But see, that's the thing....with the way the Refs were paying attention to us last year, any retaliation from us for the cheapshots from Dwight, Artest, or whoever would've more than likely been severe.

Just seemed like the Refs were really trying to limit our physical nature last year. I wouldn't be surprised if they try it again this year, since we have Shaq.

The blessing here, though - is that we now have more capable bodies to throw around. And yes - after Dwight has to deal with Shaq in the post for a half or so, he'll be less inclined to try cheap shots anyway.

And all Artest needs is one hard foul from Shaq as he tries to go to the rim....one good foul from Shaq and he'll think twice about doing anything out of the ordinary.

Dwight's elbow to BBD was pretty unintentional. It was just during a shot where Nate blocked him, if i remember correctly. (Nate blocked dwight! highlight reeeeel!)

but still, i do think that we need to play pretty rough too once the playoffs hit. Isn't that what this Celtics team is supposed to do? and i'm not talking about KG elbowing Q-Rich in the face. Good thing for us, Shaq has a reputation of being able to cheapshot or elbow opponents and get away with it.

There's a big difference between a hard pick and an elbow to the head. I think the closest you can come to saying Dwight's elbows are unintentional is that he doesn't know for sure that he's going to connect with someone's head when he swings them. Clearly he knows that it's a distinct possibility.

Goos point Filmexec, I don't know if we could get away with that in today's game but I am all for it. My uncle and I liked that kid Slava too, cause he nailed everyone!

As some others on this board have mentioned, if someone was throwing elbows around like the ones we took against Orlando, I would definately send a very clear message to Howard, almost immediately. I just don't go for that.

There is a very clear line betwen good, hard physical basketball...and dirty, dangerous basketball. Howard is the latter with his elbows and he's done it his entire career.

I don't care who he is. Even if I were a point guard at 6'0", if his elbows came at me like they did at Rondo on several plays? I'd walk up to him and tell him if another one of his intentional elbows comes near my head again, I'll end your career. Don't believe me? Try it again and you'll need cement supports to protect your knees from me. Got it?

And if he shoved me, I'd throw down with him, immediately. It's not the size of the dog or if you win the fight, it's the message.

So yeah, I do wish we'd retaliate "only when we get a real cheap shot thrown at us". It's pretty clear when that happens.

To be honest, I'm suprised that Danny & Doc, as tough as they were as players and as much as they certianly retaliated when they played...don't see to allow or have this current team protect themselves the same way by sending a message back.

I guess retaliating against something like that would hurt the team, it was the conference finals and if you get suspended for that, it would definitely hurt your team, thats why most of them held back

I know KG definitely retaliated in game 6 and was called for an offensive foul =\

and this is from his Laker days but he still pretty much moves the same, albeit with less quickness and force:

as you can see, Shaq plays "dirty". And he physically punishes people, especially on the offensive end, and he gets away with it. Btw, that pick on Gerald Wallace was dirty. He leaned into him. Illegal pick. But if that was Perk setting that, that'd be called an offensive foul 11 times out of 10.

Good point manl_lui, I think Dwight knows exactly where his elbows are. These guys are elite athletes with elite hand eye coordination; they know pretty much exactly where all their limbs are at all times in proximity to the other players.

If you've played ball long enough, you are very aware roughly where your elbows are going to land if you start swigning them around.

We can certainly retaliate by leveling someone with a screen or by raking Howard as he's going up. You don't have to hurt the guy but you can inflict some serious discomfort without getting T'd up and you can also get into the guy's head by doing it so he knows it's coming back around if he pulls it again.

Bird's Celtics leveled people. Our team could use alot more of that. Leon Powe, Posey and PJ Brown brought alot of it when they were with us.

I'd like to see both Shaq and Jermaine bring it for us this year as well. Along with Perk and Baby and to a lesser extent, KG ( as that's not really his game ) He's just very physical and mor eof a guy who gets into your head pshychologically...

I really don't see anything dirty about Wallace pick at all. In fact that was the perfect pick; Feet set, strong stance. Sure he was leaning forward but there's nothing wrong with that.

It's the Bobcats fault for not alerting Wallace to the screen.

Exactly. Wallace is one of the strongest SF's in the league (which is besides the point). As big as Shaq is, can you really just stand there and Wallace (or anyone) him fun at nearly full speed into you? You may get his man free, but you will be on the floor and out of the play.

There is a difference between leaning laterally to catch the defender trying to avoid you and bracing yourself. You have to brace yourself somehow for a collision like that.

But, the NBA does a HORRENDOUS job at officiating picks so what does it matter anyway.

nah, i don't think you're allowed to lean into guys like that. Remember when KG leveled Zaza Pachulia with a pick in the final seconds of Game 7 some years back? he got called for an offensive foul and Tommy was upset but truthfully, i thought it was a legit call.

All guys make contact but when your a behemoth like Dwight or Shaq you tend to leave people on the floor.  Making the other team pay is an old tradition in basketball.
