this was clearly evident because gasol/odom had 3 crucial offensive rebounds which equal the total of points we lost by ...

the reason why Shaq & Jermaine's offensive output was terrible was due in part to our Kendrick "Ivan Ooze" Perkins being the best defensive center in the league (Dwight Howard will tell ya)

when those two don't face Perk (meaning other teams) they're the best rebounding centers on the floor ..

mark my words, pat riley will eat his own words if we acquire shaq..

NO MORE GLEN DAVIS AT CENTER AGAINST PAU OR ODOM,
YOU DONT PUT BABY IN A CORNER.

till all-star break
KG/Baby
Jermaine/Shaq

after all-star break
KG/Baby
Perk/Shaq/Jermaine (possibly sheed if his contract goes no where)

Knowing Doc he'd alternate jermaine/shaq playing time during the second half based on who were playing/defense/offensive needs...

i.e. Heat Shaq to clog up lane and use his fouls to "injure/warn" Wade, Chalmers
i.e. Orlando Jermaine to bring dwight out of the paint (the habitual 3 second violator)
i.e. LA Shaq to back down gasol/odom/bynum and taunt kobe

IT WOULD BE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR BEING ABLE TO PLAY THROUGH A TRADITIONAL CENTER WHO WILL DRAW FOULS & BACK DOWN IN THE LOW POST PAINTED AREA AND NOT JACK UP 3'S (SHEED) OR SHOOT MID RANGE/HOOK SHOT'S BECAUSE HE'S THE LAST OPTION ON THE PLAY
WITH THE BIG LEPRACHAUN

we're defintely going to tie for 2nd or 3rd place with orlando or chicago

I fully expect to not see Perk start a single game this season. His injury will keep him out at least through the first 50 games or so of the season and when he returns, like T-Mac last year and KG last year and others that have had bad knee injuries, it will take him a while before he is 100% back.

That may take all next year. So I expect him to come off the bench and slowly work himself back into NBA playing shape thereafter which would also allow the starters who built up a chemistry to keep that chemistry rolling.

This should also help in keeping Perkin's cost on his new contract down. Sad to think of it that way but that would be a by product of never letting him return to the starting spot next year.

Some good points above on rebounding and the celtics.

I would add that IF garnet is really healthy, then rebounding could turn into a real strength next year for the celtics.

So far, I think the celtics and ainge have done a great job of keeping last year's team intact (what can I say about tony allen. He wanted more minutes not a ring). But I am not sure he has made the team that much stronger than last year.

But, with healthy players, oneal, and bradleythe team looks strong enough to content once more.  If ainge adds the other oneil then they have a good chance to win it all.

If Miami has any weakness (and that is a relative term) it would be their front line.  Oniel/oneal give the the celtics power and scoring down low. That may be the edge the team needs.

I hope the celtics sign shaq.

Shaq and Jermaine will definitely help with rebounding, but the reason we lost was because we lost Perk.  Had Perk never gottten injured our rebounding would have been fine and we would have won!

This is true, Mike-Dub, but if we had better backup for Perk we might have won anyway.  The Lakers were just too big inside and Glen had a hard time against them, despite his willingness.  Sheed was terrific but was never meant to start or play major minutes.

If we did have a better backup for Perk we might have won anyways, but you can't count on your starting center getting injured.  With Perk healthy I thought we had a pretty darn good front court.

The Celtics wing players need to do more on the backboards.

Their lack of rebounding - Pierce, Ray, Marquis - is putting too much pressure on the rest of the squad.

A burden that Kevin Garnett can no longer shoulder.

both Pierce and Rondo are good rebounders for their position.

They didn't show it in the Finals.

love this logic. If Celtics can control the paint (defensively & offensively) its Game Over. A formula for success. Celtics beating up the Heat in the paint  ;D fun to watch.

I wonder if Nasty KG comes back next season. He'll have 2 beast (2 O'neals) backing him up. Make that 3 with Perk. Expect KG with a lot swagger next season.

Ainge make it happen, NOW!

The O'Neals are not what they once were.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

They might not be as good as they once were, but in tandem they make a pretty awesome one-two punch!  Who is better?

The O'Neals are not what they once were.

Pierce's & Allen's also aren't what they once were. But heck of a lot better than every possible option available. As long as Doc is the Coach, Celtics will always be in good hands. The man with the plan.

You can't control the paint if:

1) The other team can consistently break down your defense because your bigs are both too immobile to defend the pick and roll
2) The other team scores easily in transition because your bigs are too slow to get back

Playing JO and Shaq together would also be horrible for Rondo. Think of all the points we get when KG runs hard in transition, or even Perk. Shaq and JO will be like Wallace, alway trailing well behind the push.

It is true that no one will grab rebounds over the heads of those two, unlike with Baby, but there are so many things we could substitute fr the word 'rebounds' in that quote.
