How the Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. can they afford Haslem with the contract that they gave Mike Miller?

Unless someone offered haslem at least 12-15 million more than what Miami was offering he wasn't going anywhere. The guy Is homegrown. He went to high school down here, his family and roots are here. Severly overpaying was the only was haslem was going to leave Miami.

Sound like anyone else we know? Except, you know, Haslem isn't the biggest **** ever.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Lebron's not from Cleveland, he's from Akron.

Weak supporting cast?  If the Heat keep this up their supporting cast will be better than ours.

Would anyone be surpirsed if Riley had a backdoor deal going on with Haslem to keep him there? Like a Mchale -- Joe Smith type of thing going on?

I know it's a terrible accusation to make with no evidence, but it just wouldn't surprise me at this point.

Like people have already said, Haslem was born and raised in Florida, starred in Gainesville (with Mike Miller, which apparently was another selling point for him to resign); went undrafted, got picked up by the heat and worked his butt off for his whole career. They call him Mr. Miami. He made over $7 million last year; he is still getting $20 million. He simply has his priorities in order.

This whole thing of players taking far less money than they could make in other cities is truly amazing to me -- especially when you compare it to Major League Baseball where it almost never happens and where the players association goes absolutely ballistic when players take hometown discounts or less money from one club than they could get from another. I guess it says a lot about major league baseball players, where the almighty buck rules everything, including winning.

Yeah apparently Haslem just flat out turned down the deals Dallas and Denver offered that were $14 million more. You only live once and as long as Haslem isn't an idiot (Antoine) he has more than enough money to last in his family for generations.

I see where you are coming from, but to leave that much money on the table is somewhat insane to me.

I don't trust Pat Riley, who knows what deal Haslem got...in other words they can make up the difference under the table, just saying.

OK.  Now it makes more sense.  He's getting 4 years 20 million from the Heat.  Still giving up some money, but certainly not taking the minimum.

http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/articles/2010/07/13/haslem_returns_to_heat_and_miller_is_likely_to_follow/

Hopefully this and the Mike Miller signing take the Heat to the cap.
